Expect 'critical thinking'
So, the only reason you will need this book is to get credits for a class that the authors continually tell you will be covered in a payroll program. If it was not for my professors lectures, this book would have been quite confusing. Contradictions occur in chapter 5, and the many concepts are given without fitting examples. The final End of the Year project is entirely based on this 'critical thinking approach'. Here is an example of most of chapter six: 'With a sophisticated timekeeping system, hours worked and earnings for the accrued wages can be easily generated.' They then, do not give you any examples of different calculations in regard to End of Year payroll calculation. This book could best be described by the use of a story: There was a man who placing a wet sponge in a bucket, asks his son 'Whatโs the easiest way to get water into the bucket?' and then expecting his son's answer to be 'Why father, I'd ring out the sponge'. True enough that it was a question the had critical thinking as its objective. But the only thing that was taught was irritation. This is this book in a nutshell. My response to the authors would be to quote Einstein. 'If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough.'
