Okay book
I actually debated between a 3 and a 4 and decided on a 4 finally. The book reminded me of one of Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt/Al Giordino books which rank up in the tip top 5s of my life and I will read another of Gibbins' Jack Howard books. I loved the premise, but there were places where the story line got a bit convoluted in my opinion. It was almost as if there were too many different things brought into the book with not enough explanation. I took the time to lookup more detail on some of the things that I was not very familiar with and they were interesting and added to what I know which helped me get through all of the historical details and made what I was reading more enjoyable, but some of the "flashbacks", especially the one on the Sea of Galilee, detracted from the story for me. Having not read the two previous books also left me hanging with respect to some of the references made about occurrences that must have happened in those books. As I said previously, I will read another book in this series so therefore the 4.

this volume and this series was still better written than some of the other books of this ...
The first book in this series held my attention, the second less so, and by this third volume I was struggling to get through it. The plot had too many slow parts during which I stopped caring about the protagonists, luckily a chapter later things would pick up but overall it felt mired in flashbacks and attempts to weave in story lines from the prior two volumes in the series while leaving other plot lines unexplored and unexplained. Despite these deficits, this volume and this series was still better written than some of the other books of this genre.

Gibbins is a must read.
I have become a huge Gibbins fan. This books was an enjoyable read not to mention the appendix with the actual facts underlying the story a great learning experience. Now on to the next in line “The Tiger Warrior “.

From one archaeologist to another: brilliant!
Another fabulous David Gibbins adventure book. I couldn't put it down, and especially loved when the secret gospel was revealed. Brilliant! I'm off to get the next book in the series.

Fascinating and exciting
Gibbins always presents a heavily detailed back ground for the interesting and exciting plot. I took lots of notes to check on later. It certainly adds to my vocabulary.

Good Read
A good read -- a bit more fantastic than some of the others. However, it is clear Gibbons knows how to move a story along.

Not bad
Although it's been a while since I read this, it's a great book. The author makes it intriguing, and historically accurate. I would recommend this book to anyone.
