This was a birthday gift for me, and my husband assembled it (so I don't really have first-hand experience), but he said it wasn't difficult to assemble. We did read the other reviews and so didn't include the spring hinges which others noted might split the wood. Those hinges were VERY stiff, and we just didn't see the need. The wood is a warm cherry finish that matches the other furniture in our room beautiful. It is sturdy enough for me to sit on (and I'm not a small person). I store blankets and pillows in it, and it has plenty of good storage space. I'm so glad to have this chest!

Very pretty cedar chest. It is sturdy, well made and functional. Perfect size to sit at the end of a queen size bed. I bought it to use for extra storage. Looks nice with my other furniture. A little more red than my other cherry bedroom furniture though. Packed well in double boxes. A bit of work to unpack, but it arrived with no damage. Took about an hour for one person to put together. Instructions are clear enough. I did use Elmer's glue on the dowels. The glue is not provided, but I have never not used glue on dowel construction. The lid opens smoothly and stays up when opened. Overall it is a very nice chest that meets my needs. Additionally, it provides the perfect spot to place decorative pillows at night.

The product looks very good after assembled. The description on Amazon states that it is fully assembled and another that states”assembly required: no” but it really is NOT assembled and needs to be assembled.

this is a very beautiful cedar chest only one thing i didnt like when getting the parts out the package too make sure everything way there one of the end pieces had a split in it didnt want to go through packing it back then, return so i just decided to put it together and be done with it other than the split on the end it was easy to put together hopeful in the near future packer would be a little more CAREFUL

I assembled this chest and in the next to last step attached the openers after previously attaching the hinges. I shut the door slowly to have both hinges tear out of the back panel. This left gaping holes where the hinges separated from the back panel.Assembly was fairly easy but the hinge design is questionable. The external appearance is ok except that they put one of those California cancer warnings on a sticky label on the exterior surface of the rear panel. This is one of those stickers that take a half hour or more to remove as they shred into 100's of sticky pieces. The gum residue interacted with the stain leaving a 2 1/2 inch square of slightly lighter color on the exterior of the back panel.

Ordered the Louis Philippe Storage Chest because it matches my other Louis Philippe bedroom furniture. The bottom right hand corner arrived damaged with a long crack in it. Shipping box was undamaged. Requested a replacement part from the Seller. They very kindly and quickly sent out a replacement part. It too was damaged with a crack in the upper right hand corner. Had to discard it. Another replacement part is coming. Asked to make sure it was shipped undamaged. Others have settled for cracked front panels; but, this furniture is very heavy and too very nice to settle for damaged goods. Still recommend this piece. Is very nice to have at the foot of the bed for extra blankets.

My wife needed a new hope chest. She loves it! Keepsakes and afghans.

Yes, it's not a "real" cedar chest, but it is functional, attractive looking, and relatively easy to assemble. I am very pleased with the purchase, as I did not want to spend triple the amount on this piece of furniture.
