Sarah Leah Chase knows good food
I first discovered Sarah Leah Chase when I saw her listed as a co-author of the classic Silver Palate Good Times cookbook. I then bought her Nantucket Open House cookbook, which I loved, soon to be followed by every other one she has written. Her recipes, for me, are as foolproof and relevant as Ina Garten's and Melissa Clark's.This book focuses on food that is most popular during the fall and winter months, including the winter holidays and a number of Chase's recipes have become traditions at my family's holiday meals. There has rarely been a time when I've served one her recipes that the recipe wasn't vigorously requested. The latest was last Thanksgiving when I took the Nantucket Relish that I always make to a friend's for dinner. That relish is not only fantastic with turkey leftovers, but with other roast meats as well as on just about any sandwich imaginable. My friend still waxes poetic about it every time I see him! This book has page after page of truly delicious recipes that have stood up to changing tastes and flavors exceptionally well. There are no photos, just amazing flavors.

My favorite cookbook, hands down.
I love this book. I've been into cooking since I was about 5 and I own over 4,000 cookbooks, but this one is definitely my fav. I bought it in December 1990 and at this point, have cooked nearly every recipe in the book. They are all fabulous. I have never had one of these recipes fail.I have given this book as a gift many times over the years, and the recipients have all come to love the book as much as I do.Here are some of the standout recipes:Creamed Spinach - it's a very simple recipe but the best I've ever tastedMustard Creamed Onions - a zippy twist on a Thanksgiving traditionSpanish Garlic Soup - rich and unusualRaised Waffles - worth the price of the book just for this recipe!Apricot Ginger Cream Scones - totally fattening & totally worth itTurkey Mole - the best mole I've ever had, way better than most restaurantsSpicy Shrimp, NOLA Style - just like Pascal Manale'sThe thing I love about these recipes is that even the ones I don't think I'll like (such as Rhubarb Custard Pie) come out great. SLC also has a fun, chatty and erudite writing style, so reading her cookbooks is almost as much fun as cooking from them. Many of the recipes are a bit long and can take awhile to make, but the end product is worth every minute of prep time.

Any Weather cooking
This has been one of my favorite books since it came out. There are many family favorite recipes in this book. My fave is the poverty casserole. Buy this book you will be giving it to everyone you know as gifts as this one was.

I love this cookbook
Each Christmas morning we make the overnight waffles. So many delicious recipes that I think I’ve given a copy to nearly everyone in my family over the many years since I first found it.

My Favorite Cookbook of All Time!
I've had this cookbook on my shelf for almost 20 years. I just bought a copy for my 24 year old daughter. Every time I pull it out and read through the recipes it makes me happy! I'm one of those people who hates winter, the darkness, the cold. If there is anything positive about the winter months it's THIS cookbook! Sarah L. Chase is a master when it comes to blending flavors. You'll enjoy reading her descriptions and how she came up with the recipes just as much as you will preparing and cooking each dish. Enjoy!

Great recipes!
Bought this copy for my daughter because she loves the recipes as much as I do! I've cooked up many of Sarah Leah Chases's recipes over the years and love the results. This cookbook is well thought out and put together with great prose to introduce the chapters. But the recipes are the star of the show!

Great recipes! Utterly worthless as a cooking tool.
The editor and publisher should be ashamed. This poor woman wrote a great cookbook but you can’t lay it flat to cook from it. You can’t lay it flat on a photocopier to copy a recipe without breaking the spine. How are you supposed to cook from it? Hand copy each recipe from the book? You can’t even hold it open with one hand.Maybe you can get someone else to hold it, take a photo with your phone, and print out the photo. Sorry, too many other cookbooks easier to use.But really, a cookbook is a tool. This one can’t be used.

Fantastic
Have been looking to purchase this cookbook for awhile, and was delighted to see that Amazon had it listed on their seller's site. This was an outstanding purchase, the merchandise was terrific and the delivery date was above average.Very delighted with this transaction, and love the cookbook! Sarah Chase is a terrific chef....her recipes are just extraordinary. I've already made the Bolognese Sauce and it was a winner in our home. My family will enjoy taste testing each new recipe I try!

Dull and obviously intended for US cooks
Rather dull, and old fashioned. Only bought because Ina Garten (Barefoot Contessa) recommended her. Too much salt, butter and best suited for American cooks.
