[Arabic Edition] Cute, easy to read, great localization
Review for the Arabic version. I purchased this as a study aid. It is a short, cute book suitable for young children (3-5). I was between beginning and intermediate level in reading and I found it easy to read. Some vowel markings are present. There is not a lot of text in the book, so it is quite a short story and great if you are just starting to read Arabic.I was really impressed by the localization -- the images have been modified to include hand-written Arabic onomatopoeiae and items such as newspapers/books have Arabic text on them rather than English print (which happens in many translations). The book also flows properly from right-to-left, including the flippable pages. The ending did make me laugh a bit. I will definitely read this to my kids.

A fan of the author!
This book is so creative and suspensive with the illustrations ! as you turn about 5 smaller size in lengths each a bit bigger then the previous and when you turn it over it creates a new picture telling the events of what is happening with the eggs hatching. its beyond creative and extremely fun! Dont forget the "quack" at the back of the book when you flip the book over! Its open to interpretation and REALLY gets the kids talking about what it means to them! :)

One of our favorite books
My one and three year old got this book from the library and it instantly became a favorite, so much so we had to buy it because we reached all our checkout limits. Beautiful art. Cute story. And both of mine love the last page with the SNAP!

A nice story about loving something that is a bit different
I am a fan of Emily Gravett, her simple text and lovely, classic illustrations have enchanted both me and my daughter. I have to say that 'Monkey and Me' is far better in my opinion even though it does not have a "message: per se. 'The Odd Egg' is a sweet story of devotion and persistance. Duck doesn't have an egg like the other birds. She finds an egg that looks very different. Duck looks after the egg, even after all the other bird's eggs hatch. Finally duck's egg hatches and gives everyone a surprise. It is not immediately a favorite of my 3 year old, but it is in the rotation. I am hoping it grows on her. I do just love the last picture of duck's 'baby' wearing the scarf duck knitted. Very sweet indeed.

Darling & quirky book
Love this fun book! It's great as a board book (though our paperback copy has held up well). (We bought this as a gift.)

Great book, arrived damaged
I love this book. It's about a duck who can't lay an egg like all the other birds, so he "adopts" an egg. Everyone makes fun of him. But, when it hatches, it scares all the other birds away, and it's so sweet to see the duck and "baby" bonded. An unlikely & adorable pair. I ordered this book for my child's Easter basket. I was upset that the book's jacket was pretty crumpled when it arrived. But, I suppose it wouldn't have lasted long with little ones handling it.

Unique and entertaining book for babies and toddlers
The media could not be loaded. We purchased this book for my older baby as an Easter treat. Of all of the books on the market, it was the best we could find; it isn’t an overt Easter book, meaning my daughter enjoys it all year round. We found many of the Easter themed books were a little cheesy, but this one is a genuinely funny children’s story, with the bonus of still being egg related. But enough about Easter…the book! It tells a funny little tale of male duck who really wants an egg of his own to hatch. The story is funny and achieves a lot of its humour with very few works - aka great for kids. The illustrations of duck looking between his legs for an egg and with his ‘baby’ at the end are favourites of my daughter and the adults in her life. There are lots of opportunities to expand on the story with your little ones by discussing or pointing out the pictures. The colours are bold and the illustrations are also lovely. The small pages in the middle showcasing the eggs cracking are also great - my daughter loves turning these pages. It’s very reminiscent of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, but still a great novelty feature. The ‘cracks’ and ‘snap’ also allow for lots of opportunity to engage your kiddos in the story, both with sounds and actions. All in all, we love this story, and my daughter is very happy to have it read to her again and again, even well into her toddler years.

Whimsical and delightful
It's delightfu! I especially love the part where the different birds' eggs hatch, and the little details such as the owl's reading material.
