Toddlers Love the Bright Lights
My nephew (who's just shy of one) loves this toy. The lights are vibrant; the toy is super soft and cuddly; the voice that does the counting is sweet and upbeat. It's a unique toy that makes a great gift. The only downside: as an adult who has to be in the presence of the child while he plays with this toy, I do wish it made more of a variety of sounds. It has just the one tune/phrase, and hearing it over and over again can get a little old. But that just means he really likes it!

count to 10 dino
This is cute and well made. The musical note starts and stops Dino counting. As Dino counts the spines light up in succession and reverse as Dino counts to 10. Baby loves to push button and start stop the counting. I like the child's voice, I read a review that found it annoying, but I didn't think so. I took off one star because I think it counts too fast, but maybe it would get annoying if it counted too slow?

Cutest Dino I've seen Since the Jurassic Age!
When I picked out this cool little Saurian, I was thinking of giving it to my daughter (an adult) as a replacement for Suzie, a pink brontosaurus she had as a child which I (evil Mama that I am) threw out once it got mold on it. When this guy arrived, all thoughts of my daughter flew right out the window. She's too old for it (obviously). But first of all, I took a good, hard, baby-safety look at this dinosaur.Putting aside his cuteness for a moment, I wanted to make sure that he was okay for a little person to play with without getting injured. Short answer: He's fine. Loooong answer" He's perfect for an infant, crawler or walker. Having his eyes come off isn't a worry, because they are embroidered on. He's not so big as to suffocate a baby or hog up half the crib, and he's not so small that he could be used as a package decoration. He has three baby bangles attached to his tail, so I pulled on very hard to see if the ribbon/fabric holder would let them come loose. No dice. It's there to stay. When one pushes the first fin on his head (the one with the musical note), a childlike voice says, "Hello! Do you like to count? I do too! Let's count together <counts to ten while fins light up or turn off> Roar! <giggle?> "I could see this becoming annoying after a while, but it would take one heck of a clever infant to squeeze that fin. By the time the kid is old enough to push it ad nauseum, it will be long gone. Why do I say this? Because of the one problem I have with the toy: It's not washable. You can only wipe off surface stains.I say that this is a huge flaw because my cute little infant left less than wonderful bodily substances on every baby toy she had, and washing them in hot water was a constant thing. Most toys made it through just fine, but I can't see the music player with the battery and lights staying clean enough to give a baby for long if you can't toss them into the washing machine. Heaven forbid it becomes a child's "lovey," and you're stuck with it for five or six years -- it would get so gross it could clear out the parking lot at the mall. (Or you could get some _amazing_ seats to "Disney on Ice." :-)If all dinos had this inability to bathe, it's no surprise that they went extinct. So as nice as this little guy is, I can't recommend him for anything but a careful three or four year old. Any older and the counting thing would bore them, and any younger, the dirt thing would make it impossible to have around for long. If you get one as a gift, it would best be a "special toy we only use on vacation. (insert "When we see Granny," "Go to the pediatrician" or whatever you want in place of vacation) It would be great for once-in-a-while, but couldn't stand up to everyday dirt.P.S.: If you have one of those perfect babies that slept through the night the day you came home from the hospital, never cried, barfed or pooped on anything inappropriate or some such, please don't tell me. It too me years of therapy to realize that there was nothing weird about my barfing and pooping baby who was up every two hours until she was seven months old. :-) (it's all good, though. She's now an adult, and is amazing. I was going to list some accomplishments, but they were really all brags. What an astounding woman.)

Cute, soft, educational, and interesting (with talking and blinking lights). It's a must have for your young one!
I got one of these in the hospital gift shop when my son was born in June (2014). He loved it! Something happened to the original, and I had to replace it. Found it here and he's very happy with it!When you push a button, it will count from 1 to 10, with lights on it's back first turning on (1-5) and then turning off (6-10), with a cute ROAR at the end that we turned into a nuzzling / kissing action from the toy. His smile was so sweet, I'm glad to get this back to him.

Disappointing
I didn't realize that this dinosaur only had one trick. The 5 "scales" light up and he counts to 5, then each go out as he counts to 10. That's it. I was disappointed and will return.

Fun, but people, not electronics, show babies "counting is fun"
It's soft and green, it rattles, and it's a dinosaur, a toy which even an infant can safely lie and play with because Gund makes it durable. But this is a "teaching" toy: press the "start" note and it counts, lighting up as it goes, which will probably thrill even the smallest kid.My take: a stuffed toy should be a "lovey", and not electronic. Parents and siblings teach babies to count to ten on their fingers and toes. That human interaction is essential, and children shouldn't be expecting electronics' stimulation every minute. Also, the sing-song counting will be very annoying to parents, very quickly. It's no surprise that Gund has moved in this direction, since everyone wants to ensure their kids are ready for standardized tests at an early age. But, like many toys we've gotten and given over the years, this one is best played with as a stuffed toy, with the switch "off" or batteries removed.
