Q: I Got it as a gift...is the handle that holds the hair supposed to grip the hair (like a spring that opens and closes) or am I supposed to grip it?

The handle does not grip the hair by itself. You have to hold both handles in the same hand (using your fingers) and spin the hair around the barrel. Usually holding the hair with the other hand. The "marcel" handle is nothing like a spring grip. It is much easier to use once you learn how.

Q: Over time the handle gets sticky. How do I clean it?

I have found that 409 cleans just about anything, or just use a cloth with hot water to rub off the stickiness, then dry immediately. Hope this works for you!

Q: Can I use it in Europe? Or is it 110 only?

It is 110 only, you will have to get an adapter for Europe.

Q: Can I use it in Europe ?

Not without an adapter for the country you're in.
