Teaching What Really Happened: How to Avoid the Tyranny of Textbooks and Get Students Excited About Doing History (Multicultural Education Series)

You don't need to be a teacher to get something from this book
Professor Loewen makes assumptions in his wording that you've read his previous books. To anyone who hasn't, you might find his wording loaded and self-assured. He does not hide his politics, either, but neither of these points takes away from his overall argument or his wonderful suggestions on how to help address the problems in our K-12 history classes. You don't have to be a teacher to get value out of those, either. It's simple enough to collect a few old textbooks and follow his suggestions with your own kids. Doing so will make them (and you) better critical thinkers and more attuned to the pursuit of history.

Education We Paid For But Did Not Get In School...
James W. Loewen is far more than just a first-class intellectual, a genuine patriot, and a conscientious individual; he is an incontestable and unparalleled national treasure. This country is lucky to have such a singularly decent, well-informed, and courageous human being amongst its citizens. "Lies My Teacher Told Me" by Loewen is just as life-changing.

Great Read for Those Who Want to Teach a Broader Conception of History
I taught using Loewen's "Lies My Teacher Told Me" among other books and materials. It is an excellent book and was excited to read this one. I think it is well worth reading for anyone teaching history or American culture.I teach college level students.

If u are a history teacher and interested to motivate ur student or u wish to have another perspective to how teach history ,that’s book for you ,but if u keen to learn and read history ,this book is waste of money .the book is 250 page ,the first 120 page is nothing but the authors perspective about falsehood and bouges information that embeded through the history .This book it’s not 250 pages history book it’s 50 to 70 pages with information bout history .I made a horrible choice and decived by the big name of the arther graduates school .There are many many more astonishing ,magnificent history books out there . DONT BUY THIS BOOK.

Wouldn't Recommend
He has some good ideas in the first few chapters, but I thought his delivery was dry and it couldn't keep my interest. There were also some questionable activity suggestions to teach slavery that could potentially get you fired.
