Works as advertised.
I ordered this product to replace a burned out TEC in a portable ice chest cooler. Cooling side is on bottom (unmarked side) when looking from top and positive red wire is on the right and black on left. After applying a small dab of thermo paste on each heat sink I screwed the assemble back together and both heat sinks got hot and cold on the appropriate sides within seconds of powering on. Power consumption is 3.3 amps @ 13.2vdc on power up.

Surprisingly Powerful Cooling in a Tiny Package
Experimenting with thermoelectric cooling has always been on my list, and the TEC1-12706 Peltier Module made it easy to jump right in. These little modules pack more punch than I expected. Noticeable Temperature Difference Fast Hooked up to a 12V supply, one side heats up while the other gets impressively cold within seconds. I was able to feel the temperature drop almost immediately, and with a proper heatsink and fan, it performs even better. Perfect for DIY Projects I’ve used these for small cooling experiments and even started prototyping a mini cooler setup. They’re great for learning about thermoelectric effects and for hands-on builds—exactly the kind of component that makes tinkering fun. Simple to Work With The wiring is straightforward, and the modules are compact enough to fit into tight builds. Just make sure you manage heat on the hot side, and you’ll get solid performance. Great Value for Experimenters Getting two modules in a pack makes it easy to test different configurations or keep a spare on hand. For the price, these are a fantastic addition to any electronics workbench or DIY toolkit.

Direct replacement, works great.
I purchased this as a guess to repair a wine cooler purchased 8 years ago. It just happened to be a direct replacement. Yes some quality thermal paste and this works like a charm. The cold side is the one with the red wire on the right with the wires coming out the bottom. In my case the non printed side. This was a great price and is now performing perfectly. Great item and price plus I now have a spare if the lower unit fails in the future.

Work surprisingly well
These worked very well when I applied about 3.5v to them from a power supply. I couldn’t replicate that effect with batteries but that was probably due to not enough current (or not enough electronics knowledge). The design was solid and very clean and the temperature difference between the two sides was immediate and drastic once power was supplied.

Good plates, power consumption varies
Here’s the problem with these, and if you’re trying to get the as cold/warm as possible you should consider this: the most current I could pull with any of these at startup(no temperature gradient) is 4.2A at 12V, when it is supposed to go to 5A. This varies from plate to plate and it’s almost never consistently the same power on any of the plates. The reason that’s important is because if it doesn’t pull as much current, the temperature gradient across the two sides of the plate isn’t as high, which means you won’t get to really high or low temperatures. This is a good buy if you wanna stay at reasonable temperatures but if you’re really trying to boil something or freeze something it might not be the temperature that you want, it will vary, and it’s just because of the manufacturing process. Keep in mind though that I have tried multiple plates from different places and pretty much all the ones I’ve tried have the same story, varying power consumption, so it might just be that this is as good of a buy as any

Work well, remember to cool the hot side when reliable cooling is needed.
Work well, remember to cool the hot side when reliable cooling is needed. The bigger the better heat sink when cooling the hot side.

Beware: may not perform as required
I purchased this TEC1-12706 module to repair a thermoelectric wine cooler. The original module was still functional but cooling performance had declined, so I replaced it with this unit. Installation was more difficult than expected. The lead wires were shorter than the original module, requiring me to splice in an extension. Also, be careful with polarity and orientation during installation, as the hot and cold sides can be reversed if connected incorrectly. After installation, the replacement module performed poorly. With an ambient room temperature of approximately 77°F, the wine cooler would not cool below about 55°F despite continuous operation. To verify the diagnosis, I removed the replacement module and reinstalled the original module using fresh thermal compound. The results were dramatic. The cooler temperature dropped from 77°F to 50°F in approximately one hour and continued cooling normally. Based on this experience, the replacement module did not deliver performance comparable to the original module, even though both were marked TEC1-12706. The module may be suitable for some applications, but it did not provide adequate cooling capacity for my wine cooler repair.
