History of Interior Design 1875 to 1925
Essentially a history of interior design from the end of Victorian through the beginnings of Art Nuevo and Modern. There's also a discussion about the current efforts to continue the Arts & Crafts movement today - that's probably your reason for looking at it, it was mine. Contains references to numerous other available publications that you'll want when you see how important they were in the past. Its written in a "lecture notes" style, with some repetition; but that repetition allows you to open it to any page and read a complete synopsis of the craftsmen being presented - both a unique/fun way to write a book for reading cover-to-cover, and highly useful as a expedient reference source in the future. Photography is excellent. Includes brief touches on architectural design in the period.

Excellent book
The book provides an excellent introduction in the history of furniture at the end of the 19th century and the evolution of the Arts & Crafts movement. The nice thing about this book is that it's giving the larger context, showing the influence designers in England and continental Europe had on Arts & Crafts movement in America. The book has excellent pictures of representative furniture pieces.Towards the end of the book, there's a small collection of contemporary furniture makers and designers that build classic pieces, or new ones inspired by the classic designs. You can google the name of the furniture makers to find showrooms and stores that carry their products, which is a very good way to start when you want to buy such furniture. If you like this type of furniture, and you're technically inclined, it might also help getting a book that describes how this furniture is built. This helped me enormously to understand what is involved in producing good quality furniture.

Glimpse into the wonderful wooden past.
This book is a treasure for the simple fact that it gives us a visual clue as to what the make up of a room is in an Arts and Crafts style home. It's invaluable to me to be able to see the total picture and juxtaposition of all the elements in different areas of a home - and in color to boot! As a maker of Stickley reproductions I think this book is wonderful, don't know how I got along without it.

Eye Candy...
The photos in this book are great; the text is helpful too. There's a large index, which would be helpful for some types of searching, but less so when trying to find specific types of wood used for the furniture. Overall, definitely worth the price!

Kevin Rodel is a wonderful woodworker and lends his unique perspective to the work
If you're a fan of A&C, this is a well written and illustrated book. It gives a broad overview rather than a detailed look at the various stages of the movement. Kevin Rodel is a wonderful woodworker and lends his unique perspective to the work.

Arts and Crafts - the View from American Cabinetmakers
This is a terrific book, and unlike most covering similar topics, is a critique less from the aesthetic and artistic design perspective and more the engineering and construction viewpoint. It also gives an illuminating view of the influences (and cross-influences) to North American craftsman and traditions, particularly the utopian Rose Valley community in Pennsylvania. I had the privilege to work behind a desk made by a pupil of Peter Waals, of the Edward Barnsley workshops, for a number of years, and am amused and informed to see the characteristic flourishes and design signatures in many of the sumptuous pictures throughout the book.
