The Message New Testament (Mass Paper, Green): The New Testament in Contemporary Language (Think)

Where did the super thin paper, verse #s, etc. go? I don't miss them!
I am a huge fan Eugene Peterson's The Message New Testament - here is why...I own & have read just about all of the traditionally accepted translations, including native biblical language translations. Each of them provide unique value - based on the language used (e.g., King James) and time they were translated. I add The Message New Testament to the list for several reasons:* This version is formatted like a book - it does not have verse numbers throughout the text. For me, that is huge (reading flows). I have other versions I can use if chapter/verse is important* The translation really comes across well for our world today. The King James version was translated in the language of the time and the Bible should continue to be translated to each native tongues language of the time. I still use another bible w/ 4-translations in it when I want to study a passage studying. I've read the Living Bible and for me, it was helpful at one point but I place The Message as much closer translation to the Living Bible (just my preference).* It feels like a book - What I mean is that the paper used for The Message (NT) is the same used for other books - not the super thin paper used in almost every other Bible I have. For me, it again helps to make it easier to read in any lighting condition (i.e., the words on the other side of the page do not bleed through) and it makes it easier to make notes on the page. The thin paper is almost required when you have an Old & New Testament Bible because the book would be too thick. Remember that this is just the New Testament. I never expected the "feel" of the page to make a difference but it does. No accidently tearing the super thin paper used in most Bibles.* Size of text (just like other books) - The font size is easy on the eyes - just like almost any other book. I purchased my wife the full bible version of The Message and the text was smaller than the average book (had to return it for the New Testament only version)* Full Bible vs. New Testament - I would prefer to have the OT & NT in one book but with the paper used and font size, I'll take it divided up. For me, I want to read more because all of these factors. As mentioned above, there is a OT & NT version of The Message (with the thin paper, smaller font and verse numbers on the side). It's great to have multiple versions - The Message (NT) is definitely worth a look. One last note, I check the large local bible-store and they did not have the "New Testament" version of this (with the font, paper, etc. that you find a typical books). Just double check when you see it at a local store to ensure you are getting the version listed on Amazon. If you are happy with the Bible you have, you should stay with it. I always had a few different ones and The Message definitely became the one I used for daily readying and study.

College Gear
This soft cover version of The Message was given to students graduating high school. This year, I was not able to find the imitation leather versions I had been able to purchase in the past. While it wasn't an nice, it was a little less expensive to order. The cover is pretty thin, but acceptable for a paperback. The print is decent and the spine appears that it will hold up. This Bible may not end up an everyday reader for decades, but it is perfect for a college kid to keep on their nightstand or in their backpack.

Like paperback size but smaller font
I had this bible before this. Paperback novel size. This is like that but smaller font. I can read it, and I am, but not a Joy with 8 or 10 font size. The translation is hit and miss. 50% wow 50% ehhh. Mainly the old testament is kind of a mess. This is not the old testament. But if you read the introduction it says common man talking of day,, OK.. but the old testament? That was Hebrew and not same "slang". I like it somewhat like I say depends on verse.

Doc's View
I already had a copy of The Message and use it daily. I love it. I also use it for my students in bible classes. However, I have not yet received my order of 10 copies of The Message from Amazon. The postal service did not send them onto our new address at 887 Shady Fork Rd., Chattanooga, TN 37421, even though all of our regular mail has been forwarded. Instead they return the shipment. I have tried to contact Amazon to clear up this matter, but have not found a way to contact Amazon. Therfore, I would sincerely appreciate some form of communication from Amazon as to how to retrieve my order.I hope someone will read this plea for assistance, and get back to me ASAP. I have students waiting for these books.Michael Farrand

A wonderful choice for a prison ministry!
I ordered The Message sent to a loved one in jail. He read it in entirety, shared it with others there, and all we're greatly blessed! Check the possibilities for prison ministries, (there are always very specific rules, i.e., must also include toiletry kits, sent directly from Amazon, New only ) and share the great hope of the Gospel in some very dark places!

It is a great companion in your bible library
One of the most unique paraphrases out there. Worked from the original languages into "contemporary" English. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that the "contemporary" English has a decidedly 1970's flare. My kids don't get it and forget about using this with second language learners. Other than that rather small complaint. It is a great companion in your bible library.

Very helpful contempoprary translation
Whenever I take on a new part of scripture I tuen to Peterson to help me --right now reading Paul and as usual his friendly translation helps me move through what can otherwise feel like a slog. I have The Message as well as other translations always at my side when reading--

The Message, a Modern Day version of the New Testament.
I enjoy reading this version of the New Testament. I find that it also offers explanations for some difficult ( hard to understand) passages. I would prefer that the print were larger and eventually, I will buy the complete Bible, but will check to see if the print is larger before I do.

Every day language
Very readable. If you can get over some of the Americanisms, excellent at getting over the essence of the Christian faith in an understandable way.

NOT SOMETHING YOU'D GIVE SOMEONE TO ENCOURAGE THEM TO READ THE BIBLE. SADLY.
So disappointed with this copy. Poorly produced, small font hardly on the page.

Message bible
Unable to say I brought it for somebody else personally I thought the bible was too small but the lady I got it for said it was ok I feel your books don't show size or the print size maybe something you can look into to save having to return and reorder.

Awesome!
When I first got a copy of this translation I was very excited! Not only does it provide a fresh and enjoyable language approach but also, at the same time, doesn't deviate from the original message of the New Testament, by "hashfailing" because of the writing style. I'm Greek so I study the Bible in ancient Greek and thus can say that this is an amazing, very very good version of the New Testament!

not as large as I thought ( my fault ) but the book itself is in great condition and was well packaged.
