Excess Baggage - Retro VHS '90s [Blu-ray]

The 1997 Alicia Silverstone vehicle "Excess Baggage" which also costars Benicio Del Toro, Christopher Walken & Harry Connick Jr. comes to blu-ray from Mill Creek Entertainment. While not being a great film by any means, it is still a fun one particularly for fans of Ms. Silverstone who was also an uncredited producer on the film. The film received mixed to negative reviews at the time of its original theatrical release in which critics praised the cast (though some such as Roger Ebert felt Alicia Silverstone was miscast) but felt the script was generic and undercooked. It also bombed at the box office grossing only 14 million against a production budget of 20 million. Fans of Alicia Silverstone will find a lot to like here as she is incredibly cute throughout and does a commendable job overall. It is a fun way to spend 101 minutes if you just want something entertaining to watch."Excess Baggage" is presented in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio utilizing the AVC codec featuring a robust bit rate often getting up into the mid 30's. This is clearly an older HD master more than likely prepared years ago for the DVD release due to detail is decent but not great and the movie throughout lacks that HD sheen and pop that a new 2K or 4K scan from the original camera negative would have yielded. That is not to say the movie looks bad by any means. It is a step up from the DVD release but the improvements while present are not a huge leap overall.Audio is presented in regular 5.1 DVD sound which is a bit disappointing that a master audio track featuring lossless sound could not have been included. English subtitles are included for the hearing impaired.No extras are included; not even a trailer which was included as the only extra on the DVD. The film is broke up into 10 chapter stops. This disc is also part of Mill Creek Entertainment's I Love The 90's retro VHS box art so the movie comes in a slipcase mimicking VHS rental box art from that decade.Since this disc is a budget priced release going for a little less than 9 dollars currently, it should be a no brainer for fans of Alicia Silverstone or the film in general. While the lack of any extras is disappointing but not at all surprising, the film looks decent and is an improvement over the DVD release in terms of image quality.

This is one of the best 90s movies and I discovered Benicio del Toro because of this movie and I love him as an actor now

Always loved this flick about the rich daughter who gets no attention from her father. Christopher Walken's performance is a gem as the Uncle for Silverstone who tries to track her down and keep her safe. Benicio del Toro is a bad guy with a heart of stone. Plenty of action here, and interesting relationships. A terrific film.

The movie is great, happy to finally have it on Blu-ray. It came in perfect condition. Except it did not have the 'Retro VHS 90s' slip cover.

Good to see Alicia Silverstone getting out of her Clueless character and into a more edgier one in Excess Baggage. She produced this movie too. Perfectly casted with Benicio Del Toro and Christopher Walken.

Glad I was able to get the movie but the description says its the retro VHS slipcover but you don't actually get it, just the movie. Need to update that.
