Prevents backdrafts far more effectively than cheaper plastic alternatives.
The extractor vent from our kitchen hob opens onto a wall at the side of our house. Living at the top of a hill, the wind is channelled down the side of the house which creates quite a loud noise. The builders put a standard vent cover which didn’t seem to help. A few years ago I replaced it with a plastic shuttered grille which helped a little but did not eliminate the problem. The plastic shuttered grille disintegrated, perhaps from UV sun damage so I bought this stainless steel as a replacement. It was easy to install, clipping over the 150 mm extractor hose. It comes with self-tapping screws. No wall plugs are included so I used 5 mm plugs which worked fine. It was easy to line up the holes by first drilling through the holes with a 3 mm drill to create a mark on the brickwork then rotating the vent so I had clear access to drill the larger 5 mm holes for the plugs.I am delighted that I have finally found a solution that works. The stainless steel shutters are heavy enough not to flutter in the side wind but still open when the extractor fan is used. Whilst it is not cheap, I feel confident that it should last for many years to come. It also looks very smart.

Does the job
I chose this metal vent because my experience of any plastic used outside is that the UV radiation from the sun will eventually damage it. A metal vent should last longer and will certainly look nicer for longer. The vent is straight foward to fit and I liked the fact that it had an integral rubber seal though I sealed the outside with a clear sealer as a 'belt and braces' approach. I didn't find the vent made any noise and I did try it on different cooker hood extractor settings. So, lots to like and nothing to dislike.

Smart and well made extractor cover
This is a very smart replacement for a horrid cream plastic one. It arrived promptly and looks solid and well made the only reason I've not given it 5 stars is that my partner felt it would be quite a fiddle to get the very long thin screws in place ensuring it ended up square on the wall. Having realised that once you actually got the part in which marries with the extractor you'd have a job to get it out in a hurry he found some shorter ones with raised heads, then super-glued them in just for cosmetic effect to cover the screw holes at each corner and it seems a snug fit, looks good and does the job

Great quality, hope they last longer than cheap plastic ones
These were bought to replace £8 plastic ones that only last 4months due to high winds, the plastic pins fail. These stainless steel ones are well made and quality is spot on, i bought 2 and they are identical. The spigot is a tight fit in the bored wall hole and no way plastic vent tube would fit over, so that was pushed back by it.I marked around outside with masking tape, made a cardboard template to drill 4xcorner holes, took vent out, aligned template with masking tape, then marked hole locations. It doesn't move much on the screws with spirit level, so holes need to be spot on. Including a template would definitely help.Hopefully these are better than the £10 ebay ones from china.......

Very simple to install, looks good.
Simple to install, rubber flange seal fits well; appears to work well. Chose a stainless steel vent cover as the louvres on the previous plastic one had become brittle and snapped. Supplied with screws , but no Rawl plugs.

Noisy when in use
went for stainless as fed up with replacing plastic every couple of years. Came quickly. Easy to fix and looks good. However when in use with our tumble drier it makes a noise. A repetitive tapping sound. Did not notice for several weeks as we tend to tumble overnight using cheap electricity. tried all sorts to stop it. Only way is to wedge the lower louvre open which defeats the object of having a closing vent.

Good Product
Great stuff. I've got a normal fan for regulation extraction from a distance in a kitchen (can't quite remember the exact spec!) and this works a treat. Faces the windy side of the house and I've also installed the Klimapartner RK160 gland in the pipe to ensure air break and the fan still functions well in terms of extraction. This is well made, and the slats rise and fall easily. No rattling noise on windy days (yet, but it has been a miserable winter so I'm confident!).

Looks good, but a bit noisy.
Looks much better than the old and fading plastic one it replaced. Quite easy to fit, as I first made a cardboard template to make sure the wall plugs for the retaining screws were correctly lined up and level. Might have been a bit tricky otherwise, as the screw holes are quite small, and the vent stand away from the wall (there's a rubber gasket between the vent and the wall). The only problem is that it's a bit noisy when the cooker extractor is running - the vent slats tend to "flutter" and knock against each other, making a tinny rattling noise. It's only noticeable outside the house, so as long as the neighbours can't hear it, we'll be ok. I've also fitted an internal spring baffle to stop draughts, so this may be reducing the air flow through the vent. But given the choice between draughts in the kitchen and a bit of noise outside, I'll go with the noise!
