Great saw for Boy Scouts (and anyone else!)
We bought this saw for our Boy Scout troop and it was a great purchase. Large enough to cut any wood that would be appropriate for the scouts to be cutting, light weight, great handle, and sharp to boot! I'll be buying another one of these for myself!

When it comes to logging imports, lean towards the Atlantic
It's all about the quality. Your local hardware store is likely to offer logging products sent from the Pacific side of the country. I've purchased them. I no longer have them. They don't survive. Not so with Bahco. I have two bow saws just for the convenience of switching from green to dry wood. Have had them for years.

Dry wood blade is very good, plastic grip is good, frame seems strong.
I bought this for several reasons. 1) the dry wood blade, 2) to have a dry wood saw to complement my wet wood saw, 3) wet wood saw is old and can only tighten the blade with the toggle lever. 4) plastic grip protect my knuckles and warmer on my hand. The blade is proving excellent - I have a new wood stove and have to shorten several piles of wood to fit my new wood stove. This blade works much better than the wet wood (4 cutters 2 rakers) blade - I could not buy a dry wood blade locally. The screw tensioning is simple and handy with a bigger range of adustment. I've been cutting some wood at close to -20 F and the plastic grip helps a bit compared to my old all steel saw. The knuckle guard helps some but I've still whacked myself a bit. This saw frame is a very oval cross section and seems more rigid than my old nearly round tube framed saw. I held back one star as I haven't had this long enough to address durability. I think my old saw may be 30 yrs + old. One thing - this saw came in an excessively large box, I'd guess 3 X 3 foot by 3-4 inches and the saw could just slop aorund inside. No damage done but what a bunch of space it took up!!!!!

Company Replaced Broken Blade From Oak Trees
The blade broke less than a week after delivery, after about three to four hours of use delimbing 3 foot diameter oak trees. The company sent me a replacement blade. While waiting for the replacement blade, I tried a fiskar D-handle saw. The Bahco Ergo Bow saw was massively easier to use cutting 3-12 inch diameter braches. I later tried using chainsaws, and had good success on 12 inch diameter branches, with the chain saw chain popping off a couple of times within several hours of use.

Efficient Use of Your Muscles
Just got this bow saw and used it to cut up some large tree branches that came down in a storm. The largest were 5 inches in diameter. I was amazed at how quickly it cut the wood without excessive strain. This 70 year old cut through the largest branch in less than one minute. I'm actually looking forward to next opportunity to use it and build up my pile of firewood.

Awesome saw!
As others have said, this saw is great! If on occasion, you have to do some serious chopping and/or sawing of wooden limbs, branches and even small trees in your yard this is the tool you want. A chainsaw with all its accompanying maintenance headaches looks like such a dumb purchase when you have a simple brilliant, almost zero maintenance tool such as this. Yes, it is a little more work to use but no fumes, no noise no oil and less fuss. Don't be intimidated by its size. I got several large size logs down to a manageable, pile of wooden debris I could throw in a yard waste can pretty quickly with this saw. IMO, if you have a tree too big for this saw, hire a tree professional with a chainsaw!

Not even in the same class as hardware store bow-saws
I bought a decent looking bow saw from Ace Hardware several years ago, and have always hated it. We lost several small and medium trees in a drought last summer, and I've been dreading cutting them up. After a lot of research, I decided to buy the best bow saw I could find, rather than rent/borrow/buy a chainsaw. This 30" Bahco with a #51 blade was well reviewed on several sites, so I ordered and recieved it yesterday. Last night I cut down 3 trees, each about 3" diameter and 20' tall with it. It only took me 1 hour to cut the trunk into logs, and the branches into small pieces my 5-year-old could drag. I was completely amazed at how much nicer it cuts than the cheap saw I had before. The tensioner on this saw really sets it apart from others. It's easy to keep it tight with the large handle on the nut. The other feature that really set this saw apart is the pegged tooth blade for dry wood. Each tooth is hardened and is literally as sharp as a razor. Without rakers to slow it down, the saw cuts smooth and fast through dry wood. If you need to prune green wood, pick up the #23 blade to go with this saw, or buy that package if you don't have dry wood to cut.My old cheapie bow saw was given away this morning, with a warning to the next guy that I hated it. I'll consider giving these as gifts in the future. It's a lifetime tool that works better than anything I can find locally.

Trees watch out!
With the wife having an opinion on just about everything that doesn't affect her, I needed a method of chopping down trees that requires little set up, is quiet and quick. I bought this beauty having read other reviews and chatting to some friends who backed up the positive view of Bahco products (although no one agrees how to pronounce it). My investigation lead me to purchase the 23-30 Raker Tooth blade in addition to the one supplied as the supplied blade is set for cutting dry wood and I need to chop down live (green) wood. I considered knocking a star off for the fact that I couldn't find a combination of saw with the blade I wanted to begin with, but I will need both blades eventually if I end up cutting up dry logs (so I have assumed the supplied blade will perform as well as the other one I bought). Before I bought this saw, I would have to use an old petrol chainsaw that my best friend has loaned me. Consequently, the wife would usually be out voicing her opinion as soon as she'd hear me starting the chainsaw. That in turn led to fewer trees being chopped down and me having to return to the house to watch some appalling American TV show about vampires. Now, I can offer her a cup of tea whilst she watches the telly, sneak out the backdoor to the shed to get the saw and tension it, come back inside to fill the teapot, then nip back out run down the garden chop down a tree and run back in time to pour the tea and deliver it. Sometimes I'm asked "What was that noise?" to which I respond that I've been splitting logs and I head back out to fetch a couple in whilst at the same time taking the saw back to the shed, de-tensioning it and giving it a clean. The wife has never noticed that the trees are getting thinner, but she is enjoying the extra firewood and light in to the garden. Fair play to her though, she noticed that it is hard work cutting logs with a bow saw so she bought me an electric chainsaw for my birthday and she's been cute enough not to buy an extension lead that would allow me to get down the garden with it.I have used this saw to chop down trees with trunks up to about 24" wide (the big ones have been in consultation with the wife) and whilst this does require a bit of effort it is well within the capability of the saw. I'm not a great fan of climbing trees with a petrol chainsaw so I prefer to take this up with me to thin branches out before felling the tree (or just to thin them). Using the bow saw is also a good bit of exercise. I usually chop the tree into movable chunks with the bow saw and then I cart them up to the drive to cut them and split them into logs for the fire. I do use the petrol chainsaw to chop up the bigger trees. I don't find a 'log splitting grenade' any more useful than a normal wedge (I've never managed to split a log in 4, but it does never get jammed). I also find a normal felling axe to be equally as efficient as a maul for splitting logs. A small hand axe is also required for chopping up kindling. The construction of the saw is first class. The tensioning mechanism is robust and the hand guard is strong enough to withstand the occasional impact it should receive and more.

This is Brilliant
I didn’t realise how good this was until I used a different one. Like a hot knife through butter. On to my 6th big tree and assorted branches and it’s still as good as new.

Maybe not the best for winter use
This looks like a great saw - I think I would really have liked it except for the fact that it has that small plastic grip that appears to be integral to the tensioning system. This isn't a problem except in cold weather where you are wearing mittens / gloves. I don't have large hands and with a relatively light pair of work gloves, I couldn't get my hand even close to inside the opening. Purchased a G-Man saw and the plastic hand grip just pops off. Too bad - as I think this one has a stiffer frame and a more versatile tensioner but not for me.
