Does not calculate 3-point Pythagorean measurement correctly!
Tested the unit for accuracy by measuring the height of the wall in my house. The wall is a verified 8'-2" by a tape measure. Used the linear measurement function by placing the unit on the floor and pointing to the ceiling, measured 8'-2 1/16", which is an acceptable tolerance. Used the laser measuring in the 3-point Pythagorean mode and the unit measured 7'-9 1/2" from floor to ceiling. Performed this type of measurement multiple times on same location, tried on several locations throughout the house, all measurements were incorrect. Since this type of measuring is required when measuring exterior of buildings that you cannot reach by ladder, etc. it is important for this particular function to be accurate. Researched internet to see if there was a calibration setup but found out that this unit is calibrated at the factory and cannot be adjusted. My advice, do not buy this particular unit. Packaged up the unit, sent it back to Amazon for a refund.Update: Received reply from manufacture that the error was not their unit but that I did not verify the measurement correctly with my tape measure, seriously! I'm in the building industry I know how to measure with a tape measure. Still, I stand by my original review; the laser measuring unit is either defective or it is of very poor quality and does not provide an accurate 3 point Pythagorean measurement. Seriously, did not measure correctly with my tape measure, jeesh!

Does not work in daylight (big duhh for me)
This little guy actually surprised me when I tested it around my home after receiving. This is the first time I had ever used a laser distance meter and I did not realize there is a major limitation... Indoors and possibly outside in the dark this is an awesome must have device (unless you just like to use a tape measure) but I needed and tried to use this outside in full daylight... that did not work basically at all... only if measurements were less then 2' which was far shy of the roughly 60' measurements I needed...So this most likely a very obvious thing to most people but do not buy this if you need to take measurements outdoors or somewhere very brightI only wish it would say error or something if the area is too bright and it cannot get a measurement, instead it just leaves a blank display like it is not working... this is the reason I have to knock a star off, if it cant get a measurement it should say something on the screen not just stay blank and leave you thinking it's broken or froze up somehow

Unit broke shortly after 30 day money back policy
The unit broke just after 30 days. Lost use of the following buttons:working:MeasureArea/volumeReturn/clearBeepThese might have also stopped working but I don't know since I can't measure:Add/subtractHistorical memoryCompany website was very difficult to follow to figure out how to send a support request since the unit is under warranty for 24 months.

Actually tested great!
Summary: tested incredible accuracy at a ridiculously low price.I had a fancy Leica version a few years ago for work and loved it. Saved me a ton of time taking measurements to create accurate 3d models of large equipment. Downside was that it cost a couple hundred bucks...not something I could afford when I decided to make accurate models of my own shop/lab.I was curious to just how accurate a thing like this could be given the cheap-date price...and...I have a lot of lab equipment...I set up two granite surface plates at 24 feet according to three tape measures on a level floor and tried shooting them. I was able to get 23.996-23.999 feet consistently, which given the nature of tape measures is just as likely my error as it could be theirs. That's an error of about -0.05 inches on the long end, or less than 1/16th.Figuring the error could be mine, next up I spaced the meter off of one plate using a 4" gage block. Gages blocks are hyper accurate measurement standards, this one within 0.00001" of 4". Using the laser measuring device I was able to measure that block to within -0.028" at 24 feet.If you need better accuracy than that you're going to have to spend a lot of money and be very careful setting up your equipment. The real world will have a greater effect on your measurements: cosine error at 24 feet is 0.048" per degree.Shorter range was similarly accurate, coming up with 18.036" using an 18" standard. There are better ways to measure small things, but this is the bee's knees for room sized work.

Same functions for a lot less money...
I recently made this purchase and used it once, so this is my initial assessment.Likes: inexpensive, small, fast, accurate enough, lighter than a 30’ tape measure, measure once, smarter to use.Dislikes: AAA batteries are not Li-Ion nor rechargeable, no carry case.Figured out how to install the wrist strap: see photos. Remove clip and battery cover, snake small end in one hole and out the other, run the large strap thru the small end of strap, tighten strap and replace battery cover and clip. You can thank me later.
