As good as it gets for an introduction to Cold Mountain. It will drive the reader to all 300 poems, and also to the fine decades of revealing and inspiring poems and essays penned by Gary Snyder.

Charming short collection of Buddhist poems
Wonderful short selection of historical Buddhist hermit poems from the 9th century translated by Gary Snyder. It whet my appetite to buy Red Pine's translation of all known poems by Cold Mountain.

and I love him dearly
Gary Snyder is a magnificent poet, and I love him dearly. But Blofeld and Red Pine's collection of Cold Mountain poems is about 300 pages long with 3 poems on the right side of each pair of pages and the chinese on the facing page. Gary Snyder's book is only 24 poems. That's it -- at least in my Kindle edition. i was disappointed.

Elegant, unpretentious and enlightening. A classic of literature in translation by one of America's finest and most important poets.

Form to rate this book is completely unsuited for this. These are poems. Good ones.

Bought this on kindle but the text appears like a really really faint photocopy and changing settings doesn't change this. It's basically unreadable in this format which is a shame as he's a great poet.

Excellent! Visually and in every other way. It's so good to have Gary Snyder's wonderful, poetically unparalleled versions of at least some of the Cold Mountain poems.
