Fast and Easy
Please forgive the pictures, 2 feet of snow in the yard so I had to do a quick stage for pictures on my driveway. This was bought August 2018 and used to rip dozens of trees. While aluminum rails can be superior, they can also be a big pain in the butt to install on the log and tweak as needed. I find with this type of Timber Tuff guide device two 3" screws are all I need to rip my boards.Overall I have zero issues with this product, it is heavily constructed with thick sheet metal and heavy bolt. The U clamp appears to be cast iron rather than a solid milled piece of steel. Cast iron is softer and prone to crack with extensive force so I'd suggest to of course tightening this down to the bar but that superman final turn of the hex is not needed. Go from hex bolt to hex bolt back and forth until all three are nice and tight, as I do that this always works out well for me.What I've done is to grab a 2x6 that is as close to the center of tree as possible as I find the center rings bow and warp less then side grain cuts of wood. After that I lightly sand and then coated the top of the 2x6 with paraffin wax, I had done this to allow this glide to move effortlessly along the length of the board. It's almost smooth as glass as it glides back and forth. The final tweak I had done was to slightly bend the two edges of one side of the glide ( shown in my pictures ). I had done this to always hold tight the glide to the board by themselves and now I just have to guide the chainsaw in a horizontal motion with rather than also having to push downward to make sure the guide is always tight against the 2x6 board. This is how I use this product and I'm very happy with my results. If you also want to rip your own lumber be it in the field or shop this can easily work for you as well !Helpful, is how I hope you find my review
