they are very good at it
Here is what you need to know about Sri Lanka Travel. Always, Always, Always ask for the price of an item before you make the purchase. From tea to dinner, to umbrellas, to hotel stays, to surf board rental, to bus travel to etc. You are a tourist, you must have money, therefore I will take as much as I can from your pocket. And they will, they are very good at it. Respect for that. They are extremely friendly and overly helpful as a nation. Get creative with how you are going to say NO, Thank you, my friend. Food is amazing, people are amazing, the country is filthy with trash everywhere you go. No respect for Mother Earth and the sanctity of this great planet. EXPECT, higher prices than what the book quotes. GO north to see some Elephants!Strength & Guidance

Very informative book. When I got to Sri Lanka ...
Very informative book. When I got to Sri Lanka, talking to the people there gave me one of two feelings. I either knew more than them about their country (which probably isn't true) or I was making stuff up. So, yes I learned a lot from the book, but the accuracy of all the information I'm not so sure about.

great travel guide
If your going to Sri Lanka, this is a must book to read and carry with you. It is filled with everything you need to know, from places to stay, things to do, and what to expect.Lot of ideas on how and when to travel, customs, and price choices .

Good overview and some good info
Good overview and some good info, but this was the first time lodging recommendations from LP steered me wrong. I stayed in a mid-range place the book recommended in Fort Galle that was awful and while I still like LP books and have used them for years, now I look at travel advisor for lodging.

Notes to improve publication
The book did not give extensive coverage on places to sleep, particularly the lower range accommodation. In addition important information on sites to visit was not covered in full.

Finding the right guide book for my daughter was tricky ...
Finding the right guide book for my daughter was tricky. I needed one that gave the sort of advice that was really practical yet did not stint on descriptions of the key areas. The Lonely Planet guides give all the essential details for anyone who is looking to travel away from the tour groups. I was so impressed that they dealt with issues relating to the availability of personal hygiene products, keeping safe as well as details on the cultural and tourist high spots. A must for the confirmed traveller.

Excellent source of information
I bought this book to read up on Sri Lanka before visiting for my honeymoon. This is an excellent guide, it provides information on just about everything you can think of, from restaurants, prices for public transport and tours, currency, the culture and language as well as recommended tourist attractions. i would highly recommend this book

Ok, but not as good as for other destinations.
Some useful information like how to travel between different areas and stuff to do in each place, but quite out of date information regarding where to stay at times. Also sometimes oversells how good a place is or how long to spend there e.g. 3-4 hours in Galle Fort which is actually quite small to walk around and would only take that long if you went into every shop.

It arrived quickly and has loads of great info. I have always used Lonely Planet travel guides in the past and I am not disappointed with this very informative guide. When I get to Sri Lanka I will find out how good it really is.

Nothing has changed since i was there in the early 2000s. So I do not need a new L.Planet
Nothing has changed since i was there in the early 2000s. Of Course there are many more hotels now. In short..... For the tourist part it does not make much of a difference if you take a Lonely Planet 2002 or 2014 or 2016.... AS they say in Asia "Same Same". For the hotels use the hotel apps :)
