This unique video gathers together, for the first time in their true sequence, all the colour episodes of the classic children's programme Ivor the Engine. This ordinarily extraordinary railway, in which the engine sings in the choir and there is a dragon in his firebox, was invented, or perhaps discovered, by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin over 40 years ago and it has delighted children and adults for more than three generations. Originally made in black and white, the stories, and some new ones, were filmed again in colour in the 1970s, but are still animated by the simple direct method that gave the series its original charm. Running time: 3 hours 7 minutes approx.

You've forgotten Ivor. Revisit your childhood now.
There's little to say about this tape. Ivor The Engine is simply a lovely programme and if our world was a fraction as wonderful as his, it would be perfect. The music is great, the stories simple but perfectly formed and the animation just what is needed.Criticisms? I wish it was a DVD. That's all. Your kids will love it and you will too. Buy it!

Peter Firmin, Oliver Postgate: I salute you...
Knowing that these guys created Ivor, Bagpuss, the Clangers and Noggin the Nog in a cowshed near Canterbury simply heightens their legend, as far as I'm concerned. Wonderful, wonderful storylines, and utterly unique and intriguing characters. How did they come up with this stuff? A steam engine that sings in the local choir? The locals clubbing together to gas heat a local, extinct volcano for their newly-adopted dragons; a slightly nutty goldminer, whose objective is to mine gold, and not to make money; and a sheepherding elephant, to name but a few.The sheer imagination of the guys is outstanding. Buy it, now, and make your life better, is all I'm going to say!

A real treasure!
I fondly remember Ivor the Engine from my childhood, so when I saw it available here at amazon I jumped at the chance to buy it for my 18 month old twins. My son is train mad anyway and this just served to fuel his enthusiasm. I must admit that when it's playing I find it hard to tear myself away! My favorite episodes are the ones that feature the dragons. Bluebell the donkey is definately my daughters favorite character.
