First, technical but important matters. Binding (hard cover) is sturdy and well done. I’ve been using it on my desk for more than a year and no sign of wear or tear. Paper – high quality, snow white, very legible. It is not completely transparent-free – you get to see the items on the other side, but in a way that doesn’t really bother (unlike Wehr dictionary, for example, where transparency is more of an issue). See attached photos to get an impression.The dictionary itself. The entries are not root-ordered but alphabetically sorted . That means that derived words starting with a different consonant are located on different pages. For example: sakira (verb for get drunk, intoxicated) is at the page 637, but muskir (for intoxicating) is at the page 1041. This easies the work for those starting in language but makes looking for a word more time consuming for an experienced student of Arabic.There are no mentions of the Verb Forms whatsoever or vowel pattern change in Imperfect form. There are no plural forms of the nouns (which is a must for beginners). All Arabic words (be it main entry or synonym) are vowelized using diacritics. The dictionary covers the Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) or fuSha of our days. Each main entry has synonyms listed. There are no usage examples, but there are sometimes set phrases. The dictionary I got was printed by IPEX Printing in Beirut, Lebanon.The bottom line: it is good to have it for up-to-date words and vocabulary, but it does not eliminate the need for something like Wehr dictionary  The Hans Wehr Dictionary of Modern Written Arabic  for more complete coverage. It looks like this one was created as a dictionary for Arabic native speakers who look for English translation of the Arabic words they know well already.The dictionary weight is 2.1 kg (4.67 lbs)Hope you found this review helpful.Thanks

Excellent dictionary! You can never go wrong with this dictionary, the author and his son(s), they make the best dictionaries ever. I am a linguist, instructor and translator; I use it on a daily basis.

Haven't used it much yet,but so far so good. Very nice easy to use for a beginner like myself. Highly recommended Kamus!I can read arabic, so if you are struggling with reading it might be hard at first until oyu get the hang of it.But still Recommended.

The dictionary arrived in mint condition and lives up to its reputation for wide coverage and currency. The organisation of entries is alphabetic, unlike the equally reputable dictionary of Hans Wehr which is organised around roots/stems. In using al-Mawrid to help with the reading of a forensic science review, most of the morphological derivatives used to express technical matters concerned with the law and expert witness evidence were in the alphabetic list, but about 3% were not, and I needed to extract a root and use Wehr to understand the morphological-semantic aspects of a tricky word before finding my own equivalent term in English forensic usage. I think more journalistic stuff would be covered with fewer than 3% gaps. Well done to this experienced and diligent lexicographer ! I cannot comment on the coverage of dialect words, except that the few I know in Egyptian vernacular from, say, Al-Alawi's 'Yacoubian Building' were covered.

I purchased this dictionary for a translation test since soft copy was not allowed. It is a good dictionary to own if you want a hard copy and has many words. I recommend it for people who are looking to take a translation test for entry and intermediate levels.
