I've been using Bick 4 for years, and it's the conditioner I reach for on the majority of my leather boots. What I like most is that it does its job without dramatically changing the appearance of the leather. Many conditioners and oils will noticeably darken leather, either temporarily or permanently. Bick 4 tends to darken the leather slightly right after application, but in my experience that fades as it absorbs and dries, leaving little to no lasting color change. That's a huge advantage when you're trying to maintain the original look of quality leather. I use it extensively on my Red Wing Heritage boots, particularly the more finished leathers where preserving the original color and appearance is important. It does an excellent job keeping the leather conditioned without making the boots look dramatically different after treatment. Some leathers benefit from heavier products. For example, my Red Wings in oilier leathers such as Briar Oil Slick and Oxblood Mesa typically get treated with Huberd's Shoe Grease instead. Those boots already have a rich, oily character, and I'm less concerned about darkening than I am about maximizing conditioning and weather resistance. That's really where I think Bick 4 shines. It's an excellent maintenance conditioner for boots where you want to preserve the original appearance rather than heavily oil the leather. I like leather products, and I like to take care of my stuff, so the right leather care product is critical. I've used a great many over the years and have settled on two as being clearly superior: Bick 4 and Leather Honey ( Leather Honey Leather Conditioner, the Best Leather Conditioner 8oz Bottle ). They are quite different from each other. Bick 4: I'm pretty sure this stuff is what North Beach Leather used to sell under their own name. It is a lanolin/oil lotion that really works. I use it bare handed, and my skin feels soft and good afterwards. It doesn't darken leather, and it cleans as it works if I wipe it up before it is all soaked in. I've used it on my wife's old Chanel purse, an Armani jacket, and some Coach gloves. In every case, it did exactly what I wanted, making the leather softer, more suppler, and feel great. It is easy to wipe Bick 4 off of areas it is unwanted, like plastic or metal. Leather Honey: Leather Honey has a unique effect, making leather somehow feel denser and more hydrated. It is hard to explain, but it is very different than the effect of more lotion-like products, and I've tried a lot of them. On my favorite ten-year-old leather jacket from North Beach Leather, Leather Honey soaked in quickly in certain spots, and I added some more. After two hours, there was nothing to wipe away. The already heavy jacket feels heavier, better, and the results have proven to hold up and add more rain resistance. A new black leather feels more supple. A pair of black Ferragamos appear less abraded at the toe. Brown Sebago deck shoes certainly got more supple and soaked in a lot. The color darkened. That brings me to the three small caveats: 1) Leather Honey is not a cleaner. Since it isn't water-based like lotion products, dirt stays. For example, on the Sebagos, an area that was a bit dirty was just the same, but the leather under it was clearly treated. 2) Leather Honey doesn't evaporate on plastics and rubbers, nor does it wipe off that easily. A day after treating the Sebagos, the soles still had Leather Honey on them, now somewhat sticky. Obviously I should have done a better job of wiping. 3) Leather honey can and will darken some light leathers. Which one should you use? I use Bick 4 for thinner leathers, or ones for which darkening would be a problem, or if I'm trying to clean and condition in one step. If the words that come to mind with the leather you're treating are "soft," "buttery," or "thin," then use Bick 4. Its effect won't last as long as Leather Honey's, but it works, and it works beautifully, doing just what you want a leather conditioner to do. I use Leather Honey for thick leathers that I want to feel more like high quality leather. Think cow hide over lamb skin. I make sure the leather is clean, and use Leather Honey if water resistance is important. I use Leather Honey if the leather is really bad, because it does more than the Bick 4. I use it when some darkening wouldn't be a problem. Leather Honey makes all leather more, er, leathery, and I mean that in a good way.

My Experience I put this product to the test on three different leather items to see how well it worked: A pair of old, light tan leather boots that were looking really dry and had some scratches. A Little Cleaning Action: It did a surprisingly good job of getting rid of the light surface dirt and the minor scuffs on the white bag. If you have really heavy dirt, you'd probably need a dedicated cleaner, but for regular upkeep, this is all you need. Soft and Supple: The dry boots immediately felt much softer and more flexible—it really restored the moisture to the leather fibers. The old wallet feels supple again, instead of stiff. Perfect Finish: It dries to a natural look. It’s not overly shiny or greasy at all, and there was definitely no sticky residue, which is something I've dealt with using other brands. Final Takeaway If you need a reliable product for your smooth finished leather and you want to be 100% sure it won't change the color or leave a waxy buildup, look no further than Bick 4. I read reviews here that said the product makes the leather item look great initially. Then, after a month or so, the treated leather goes back to like it was before it was treated with this product. Despite the warning, I ordered the product and it arrived in a timely manner. I used it on a Ferragamo leather jacket that had cost me more than one thousand dollars a few years ago. I really like the jacket. However, a couple of weeks ago when I put the jacket in a well lit closet, I noticed the jacket did not have that beautiful glow it had when I first bought it. I thought the jacket had finally come to the end of its usefulness and would have to be tossed in the trash. Last night I spent about one hour cleaning and vigorously applying the product to the entire area of the leather jacket, being careful not to get the product on the clothe lining. After the hour elapsed, the product began to get absorbed into the leather and also appeared to dry. All wrinkles that had accumulated in the sleeves from wearing the jacket, disappeared. Also there was one small (but not deep) scratch on the left sleeve. After applying the product to the small scratch, the scratch disappeared. When the jacket began to feel dry, I placed it on the fancy hanger that came with the jacket and I reshaped the jacket. Today, after the product dried, the jacket looks as it did when it was new. Needless to say, I am very pleased with the product and recommend it for restoring very fine soft leather clothing, such as a mans' jacket. The only thing that concerns me is the initial warning. The jacket might loose its wonderful look since it was restored only yesterday. UPDATE: It has only been a couple of days since I applied the product. Now that the jacket has completely dried, it looks worse than it did before the product was applied. Not only does the jacket look "tired" it now has streaks that show the flow of the product as it was massaged into the jacket leather. SECOND UPDATE: I recently had occasion to take another look at the jacket that I had previously treated with this product. As I stated above, the jacket looked worse than it did before applying the product. However, there appears to be a chemical process that takes time for the benefits of the product to be seen. The jacket no longer has the streaks it had a few days after I applied the product. Now that the product has had time to dry and "do its thing" I must say that I am very pleased with the product. The jacket looks new again. Bottom line? Buy the product but be aware that a good result might take longer than anticipated. -

Got for birkenstocks and belts and it serves it purpose pretty well. It made my holster shine like new. Works good on most leather products that need cleanin or a little polish.

For my oiled leather Birkenstock sandals, cleaning the straps was a pain. Then I found this product which does the job wonderfully

I am not sure if this is the right consistency of the conditioner but I have a watery one. I tried to apply on my bag but it seems the bag is still the same.
