For Death Valley, the best (but one odd omission)
By far the best of several books covering Death Valley National Park's SUV and 4-wheel drive trails. It covers more trails in more detail than the others. It gives 10-point ratings of how difficult and how scenic. The reviewed trails range in difficulty from 2 (any maintained street vehicle will be fine) through 7 (requires high clearance, 4wd, low range, hefty tires, experience, and nerve: you bet your life). Eight and above are not covered (Mad Max territory). Oddly, the book omits the trail from Eureka Dunes through Dedeckera Canyon and over Steel Pass to Warm Springs. For that, get the free pdf map "Death Valley Backcountry Roads," or consult the Tom Harrison or National Geographic map of Death Valley. This book also covers the Mojave/south eastern California deserts.Order the spiral bound version if you can find it.

Another good trail book to the collection
Another good trail book to the collection. Goes good with the Southern Nevada one for the trails that cross the borders.
