Engineers Soft Vice Jaws 100mm 4" Magnetic Base + Rubber Grip New 273221 U202

The previous vice jaws that came with my bench drill vice, were very poor quality. These are far superior an being magnetic, stay on the vice, when holding parts.I'm loving them!

So.... these are good jaws. They are supposed to be 'soft' jaws and that's exactly what they are. Not too firm, not too soft. Cleverly the base metal appears to be aluminium which of course is much softer than steel and many other metals so even if you compress the plastic or rubber inserts too much you'll back your piece onto a soft metal. Now the bad news.... not a reflection on the jaws but..... it's just the way it is. The steel screws in my vice are inserted in recessed holes and so the magnets in the soft jaws can't adhere to them. Not a design flaw for either the vice or the jaws. It's just that they don't work well together unless you hold the soft jaws in place while you clamp your piece in place (not that difficult). However... I bought some self adhesive magnetic tape on Amazon and stuck it on the top internal face of the aluminium soft jaws and it worked a treat. Just enough bonding from the power of the magnetic tape to hold the jaws in place and not too much to make it difficult to remove them. The manufacturer of the jaws might take a tip from me and change where they place their magnets.
