A brutal book
An extraordinary book, both in style and content. Deeply shocking, with multiple references taken from 'scientific' literature of the time. But, with a bias towards British, German and some French/Belgian sources. There seemed to be none from Spanish or Portuguese sources. Considering this was a tour de force against colonialism, the absence of religion was also noted. The book carved a line which was very persuasive, not least when focusing on the origins of genocide and the many precursors of the holocaust. The parallel travel, accross Algeria was a welcome distraction and highlighted some of the arguments: mainly that the clearance of 'unwanted' people continues - written before Covid-19, now with a contemporary, and bitter edge.

The Incredible Brutality Of The Strong Against The Weak.
I must say that although I am someone in their late 60's, I was shocked by the brutality described in this book. And that brutality was almost entirely handed out by white Europeans on the the natives of the many countries that were invaded across the planet. And at the head of the pack were the British. The white Anglo-Saxon race saw itself as the most powerful on earth, and it was for a long time, as it built it's empire. The slaughter of the so-called savages was done for economic reasons, raping these countries of their natural resources and enslaving millions. Man's inhumanity to his fellow man was grotesque, and all done using the bogus excuse of bringing civilization and Christianity to the ignorant natives.

Really good
The way this is written is really good, a combination of history and good, engaging writing. This writer presented information really well. Missing parts of history that you never connected are placed here. After I read this book, I purchased it for family as well.Strongly recommend that you read this book.

Immersive, and powerful
Really enjoyed reading this. The 'travel diary' styled format adds greatly to the images the author conjurs. Would recommend to anyone who's interested in African history (or in learning about the horrors committed there by Europeans). Definitely not a light subject, but very much worth the read.

A devastating portrait of colonial history
Lindqvist demonstrates the sheer brutality and dishonesty at the heart of European conquest and destruction clealy for anyone to understand. Those who are still trying to prevent the truth about Britain's blood soaked empire use parliament and the right-wing media to attack anyone who dares mention it. The ranting hatred directed at the National Trust or the four people who were put on trial for pulling down the status of Colston shows that the deep racism which Lindqvist exposes is still a potent sickness in Britain.
