Great leveled reading for early readers!!
My daughter and I love these little books. They are guided reading level D-I which were just right for her in first grade. I bought these books hoping to supplement her school books. These paperback books are only about 5" square but have a laminated cover and fun, colorful pictures throughout. Each book has a different illustrator so the picture styles vary which adds a little more interest. The fairy tales chosen in these books are common and each have a moral. My daughter loved sharing what she thought was the moral to each story. I loved the repetitive lines in most of the stories which help build vocabulary by encouraging independent reading. The stories are simple but still have a few unfamiliar words in each book. The illustrations support the stories very well.I didn't really like the phrases "by and by" and "quick as a wink" which are used many times in these stories. However, I would recommend these books to any parent wanting to add leveled reading books to their home library. I would use these as a read aloud for children who are not yet reading, for children reading at those levels, and for children who are a little beyond those levels as independent, fun reading.

Fun little readers
These were nice short tales. Some familiar and a few unknown ones which were quite good.

Fairy Tales that beginning readers CAN READ!
These are the best!! My kindergarten grandson was reading many books that are phonetically written (which gave him an understanding of sounding out and blending words-an essential skill) I was sure he was ready to read real text, but anything I had was too long and difficult. I saw these and since fairy tales a familiar to him I thought they were worth a try.I couldn't be more pleased!! They are leveled in order of difficulty. Each book has a glossary in the back telling what words mean (and gives you a heads up as to what words you may want to share ahead of time). When we got the books I only brought out one or two at a time, going in order. At first he asked me to read the book to him, then he would read it to me. He was so successful (and so proud) that he kept asking to read another one. We have read them all now and here reads them fluently. He is now reading many books in the Ready To Read level.I believe these books were interesting enough and easy enough to keep his interest, yet challenging enough that he built skills and confidence. Another key was reading these books to him when he wanted me to, then with him if needed, but always letting him show me he could read them alone. When he read it fluently alone he got to put it in his "Expert Bag" of books that he can read without help. These books got him to be much more independent and wanting to try to read other material.

A box of wonder, excitement, and fun!
What could be better than hearing the stories that swirl around our lives then watching your child read them for the first time! This box of books is packed with all of the stories that you know (Princess and the Pea, Three Little Pigs, Ugly Duckling) and even a few others (like Martina the Cockroach) that you might not. The repeating structure, simple words, and fabulous pictures will make these stories a great choice for young readers because they already know how the whole story structure goes so they can practice the specific words again and again. But the great thing is that they are not boring either! And the illustrations are superb! Now just so your expectations are clear there will be lots of words that your little reader will have a hard time with (like delicious) but it repeats so often that they will learn it by sight and not phonetically, which, to my mind, is the right way to teach reading- using both methods. My daughter adores this set of books and I do too, and you can't say better than that!

Great stories but not "easy"
These stories are boxed and displayed with other boxed early reading books. They are not of the same level. I would judge and guess them to be Level E, first grade. Children will pick up the story after several readings if they are of a lower reading level but if they are reading Level B books, don't expect them to be able to read these first thing out of the box! Great stories just not "easy".

Big winner for emerging reader granddaughters!
I have 2 granddaughters-- 2 weeks apart in age--that recently turned 6. They are both emerging readers and love fairy tales. These 15 little books were a big hit for their birthdays because they can read them by themselves (and even to little sister). I love the less familiar stories like "Martina the Cockroach", and the more traditional versions (not the Disney version) of some more familiar stories like "Cinderella" and "Three Little Pigs". The pictures are colorful and simple, and the reading level has a good combo of phonics and sight words. One of my granddaughters read me 2 of the books on Skype last week (I usually read to her), and she was so proud of herself for reading to Nanny! Her mommy loves that they can all be kept in their own carrying case, and provide a good "quiet time" activity.

Very Nice, But Not for Your Average Kindergartener
These little books are nicely written and have full color illustrations. The stories are compelling enough that you might want to read them to your child. The vocabulary is more advanced than what I was anticipating though and it will be a while before my son will be ready to read them. To give you a feel, this passage is from "The Elves and the Shoemaker": "But a magical thing happened. When the shoemaker woke up, the leather had already been turned into a fancy pair of shoes! 'Wow! I will sell these at the market,' he said." This passage is from "The Princess and the Pea": One stormy night, there was a knock on his door. When the prince opened it, he saw a girl. Her hair was wet. Her clothes were muddy. And she was shivering."

Daughter loves these books
My daughter is 6 years old and has read all of the Little Readers. This box set is an excellent follow-up to that set. The books are more challenging than the G&H box but they are fun and she always looks forward to reading one. My daughter is in Kindergarten but she is a very advanced reader for her age. These books would be very challenging for a new reader.

Ok
Está bien, pero los libros son pequeñitos y de páginas finas. O el niño es muy cuidadoso o se estropean enseguida. Son cuentos típicos pero muy resumidos para que un niño pequeño pueda seguirlos, en ese sentido sí me han gustado

not for a beginner reader...
My daughter loves this set of books. She's only five years old and an advance reader. The books contains new words to enrich a child's vocabulary. I recommend this to every child who can read all by themselves.
