An EXCELLENT resource!
Our rural county in South Carolina is building a new animal shelter and we want to update our policies, shelter protocols and animal ordinances along with our physical facility. We were excited to find this book. It’s detailed enough to be comprehensive, but condensed enough to be accessible. Copies were distributed to our county administrator, shelter staff, key volunteers, and the advisory council for the shelter. Now everyone is working from the same frame of reference and we can proceed much more efficiently. The Playbook is well named... and highly recommended.

A Must Read and IMPLEMENT
For the animal shelters who have implemented (TNR) Trap-Neuter-Return over 15 years ago, this book provides facts & research regarding (RTF) Return-to-Field and other successful programs which reduce animal euthanasia. Excellent source of information for animal welfare advocates, shelter management and animal control officers who care to help animals.

Looking to better your local shelter? Read this book!
Dr. Pizano has written a book that really breaks it down for a shelter. I left with many tips I was able to relay to my municipal shelter. I believe this book has the most up to date information out there. Glad I found it and easy to understand.

This book saves lives!
After reading this book and the practical advice/goals that Dr. Pizano presents, I have seen the number of lives saved in our own shelters. She cites several real life examples of how quickly a shelter can increase the amount of animals saved by making the slightest of changes. Furthermore, Dr. Pizano describes how many of these improvements are at no cost to the shelter and in fact, can save money to be used in other aspects. The knowledge collected in this book is clearly from real life experience and can help, any shelter struggling or just simply wanting and looking for ways to improve. This book should be read by all shelter staff, volunteers, and caring contributors, because it takes an entire community to save as many animals as possible. This book is very user friendly, containing helpful pictures and charts, easy to understand language, and easy to navigate through.

This step-by-step guide for Animal Shelters puts all of the most current animal sheltering best practices in one place. The testimonies throughout the book bring the instructional part of this book to life! I kept thinking, "If they can do it, so can we!"This book is a "must have" for any and all animal shelter leaders! I was fortunate enough to meet the author, Dr. Sara Pizano, and one of the editors, Dr. Julie Levy, and their wealth of knowledge of animal sheltering makes it easy to see why this book is so great!~Valerie Robinson, Director Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter Gray, LA 70359
