My energy has returned! An affordable P90X recovery drink.
UPDATE 12/29/12: Isn't it interesting that many of the earlier 5-star reviews (including this one) all have low helpfulness ratings? Just about every single one of them. Very suspicious. I wonder if Amazon monitors that kind of stuff and identifies possible instances of competitors trying to sabotage good ratings of products that challenge their market share. I'm currently in law school and 66 days into my first full round of P90X. In other words: I'm broke, sleep-deprived, and sore. Halfway through P90X I was really struggling. I wasn't seeing good results even though I finished each workout and ate clean. I was yawning towards the end of the workouts and the 100% Whey protein shakes I made after each workout weren't cutting it. Each evening around 6PM I'd be falling asleep while studying. At one point I considered dropping P90X in order to save some energy to stay awake each evening. The folks at Beachbody emphasize how important it is to fuel up immediately after an intense workout like P90X so I considered buying the official P90X Results and Recovery Formula: 30-Day Supply . Unfortunately, regardless of how well it works, it's way out of my price range. I barely had enough money to buy the P90X discs and equipment, much less an additional $60/month for the formula. Thankfully, I found Mike's Mix. Mike's Mix gets the job done. Period. My workout performance and overall energy levels have skyrocketed and my post-workout soreness has plummeted. I can workout at 3:30PM and have more than enough energy to make it to 11PM in time for bed. I take 1-2 scoops of Mike's Mix after a workout - 1 to 1.5 scoops with a scoop of Whey for the strength-training exercises; the full two-scoop serving for Plyo and Yoga (IMO the two most intense P90X workouts). I wish I had Mike's Mix on day 1. I'm sure my results and energy level would have been much higher. I'm starting another round of P90X after I finish this one so I'll come back and post an update on this review when I finish that round using Mike's Mix throughout. Other reasons to choose Mike's Mix: 1. Taste - It tastes amazing compared to most of the other drinks out there and especially considering he doesn't use any flavors, colors, or preservatives. It's all natural and he makes it himself every week. 2. Price - This costs about half as much as a drink of equal quality, mostly because he spends money on better ingredients instead of special packaging, advertising, etc. 3. Ingredients - Mike uses good stuff. Since he isn't spending money on ads and promotion, he puts some high-quality stuff in here. 4. Mixes well - I use a Blender Bottle W/Wire Ball-Large 28 Oz. to shake this up and it works perfectly. 5. Customer service - In addition to his website with tons of information, articles, and advice (and the option to buy Mike's Mix in bulk for an even lower price), Mike is a good guy and he personally responds to customer questions. I e-mailed him with a question when I first got it in the mail and he responded within 12 hours. If you're on the fence and don't want to shell out $60/month for P90X Recovery Drink (or a $60 equivalent), give Mike's Mix a try. Just do it. Even if you're swimming in money and have enough for the expensive stuff, use it to buy more Mike's Mix that will last you longer. Buy one tub of it and see for yourself. FYI: I'm an independent buyer who stumbled on Mike's Mix when looking for something to use during P90X. I don't know Mike but I'm glad he's making this for people like me who want to perform well on a tight budget.

Reduces soreness, tastes great, give it a try!
Update 8/18/2014: I'm now about 7 weeks into the p90x3 program and I'm probably on my last week or so of Mike's Mix. I don't take it everyday and as noted below, I rarely use two scoops. That being said, I've been through all of the workouts now and I'm still very impressed with how effective this recovery drink has been. There may have been two days out of the last 7 weeks where I felt sore the next day but even then it's very mild. Quick tip: I've gotten lazy with shaking my mix with water and have gotten a few clumps lately (completely my fault)...use your blender bottle and metal ball and/or shake well so you don't eat powder clumps lol. I'm afraid to order anything but the chocolate flavor because it tastes so good! Original Review: I just started p90x3 and wanted a recovery drink I could afford. I'm only three days in (and going strong!) but I had to come back to say that this mix is stellar. I'm not a big athletic guy. No, I don't lift. I haven't exercised normally in a loooong time so I expected my body to be very sore when starting this fitness program. Surprisingly I'm not too sore! Yes, I can feel the soreness at times but it is completely tolerable. I've done p90x single workouts before where for 2-3 days after I can barely get myself up the stairs and back (darn you wall squats!!), so I know about being very sore. Not being sore = more able/willing to workout the next day and that is very important to me. I usually drink just one scoop for now and will likely up that as my workouts get more intense. So, I'm not sore as much. Yay! But that is not my favorite part of this mix. No, my favorite aspect of this mix is the taste. I burn through my workout and feel rewarded when I drink Mike's Mix. I've never used a recovery drink before so I can't compare it to anything else, but I will say its the best tasting workout drink I've ever had. It's seriously like a glass of chocolate milk! Except it's still light like water is rather than the heavy thickness that can happen with chocolate milk. A+ so far and will buy again when this one runs out.

Good product, Would recommend.
I have been using this product for about a week now. I have been using recovery drinks for a long time, but I had mostly been making my own, mixing protein powder with naturally high carb fruit juice in about a 3:1 ratio. I switched to a premixed recovery drink, just in time for it to be discontinued, so I have been looking for a long term solution to my recovery drink supply and it needed to have 1) approximately the carb to protein ratio 2) be within an acceptable calorie range 3) take care of the workout effects I originally began using recovery drinks for 4) be drinkable Numbers 1 and 2 are in the same vein for me so I will address them first. My needs for a recovery drink respond to about half of 1 serving of Mikes Mix, this corresponds to 36.5g carbohydrates, 10g of protein and 189 calories. I found this to be in my range of acceptability for me over time training. In the week since I have been using Mike's Mix I have experienced no change in negative side effects from the switch from a previous recovery drink, it's hard to give any further analysis on this considering the short time frame I have been using it, but for me, it works. It's drinkable. At first I found it weirdly sweet and week, but I reduced the amount of water to mix (less than a cup for half of the serving size) and I am getting used to it. I would say it's easy to drink now, its growing on me. It blends completely in my blender bottle (One of those bottles with the metal whisk ball in it) I just mention it because I had some other reviews commenting on mix-ability, and I think it's better than average actually. My only complaint is the way serving size is handles on mikes mix it says 100g, or 3 over flowing scoop fulls (which I didn't find a very accurate measure). I found that 50g is almost exactly 1/3 cup, so I just leave a 1/3cup measure in there, much easier I think. In addition to the points I wanted Mike's is also more affordable than other recovery drinks I've tried. Overall good product, would recommend.

Mike's Mix
I am doing P90X and read some reviews about recovery drinks and tried this. I couldn't believe the difference! You take it after a workout and it greatly reduces muscle soreness and is less than half the price of the P90X stuff if you order it from the Mike's site. It also tastes great, like a big chocolate malt! It however has no creatine which from my understanding helps in building muscle which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5. I would suppose if you used the other stuff you would probably have better results in terms of muscle growth but without having tried the other stuff to compare results wise I would definitely recommend using this product especially if the P90X formula is too expensive to consider. This product will bottom line improve your performance.

Great taste and consistency, but too light on protein
I really like the taste and ease of mixing of the Mike's product. The only downside that I see is that this only has 12g protein/serving. For recovery after weight training. Don't get me wrong, the quality of the product is awesome, and I can honestly say that my recovery times have really been helped by the mix, but I would like to see a bit more protein; at least 20g/serving (2 scoops). I have been fortifying the mix with some additional help protein and sprouted omega mix, so I am getting the overall protein I am looking for, so I do recommend this mix.

Give it a try, you will like it...
I don't remember how I came across Mike's Mix but I sure am glad I did. I have always worked out off and on and used many different supplements. In terms of a chocolate recovery drink, I was using the EAS brand. I really liked the fact that Mike's Mix is a mom and pop shop which gives me the impression that the product quality will be consistent and very high. Mike's website also does a great job of describing the science behind this magic mix. I have been training for some half marathons coming up in 2012 and have been using Mike's Mix for about 3 weeks now. The stuff tastes great and I must admit that my body seems to recover much better after training. I run about 25-30 miles a week and I have never felt better. The 4lb container arrived well packaged and sealed to preserve freshness. My only minor gripe about this product is that like any other recovery powder, the directions state that a blender is not necessary. Just add to your liquid and shake. Well, just like any other powder out there, the mix doesn't dissolve completely and clumps up a little. I wasn't surprised but was hoping I wouldn't have to pull out my blender daily anymore.

Best ever
Great taste and bye bye Pain. I have never used any supplements before because of the hype that you will gain uncontrollable weight. But this stuff is good for the recovery for tomorrow's workout and yes...some weight is gained, but in the right places (Two thumbs up for that). The taste is better than nesquick..so be warned...you will have an urge to snack on this. My only question was that the seal that appeared as thought it was supposed to be stuck on the lip of the bottle was unglued when i unscrewed the cover (cover had a seal to break though). Let's see what happens with the next bottle... UPDATE (20/03/2013 aka the next day) I have been informed from "Michael" of "Mike's Mix" (If that's Mike...That's some seriously AWESOME customer service) that these paper seals have never been sealed with glue, but rather are pressure applied....Hence my five stars go up to six...wait...Oh well :) On another note, I have been feeling hungrier and peppier since mixing this supplement with POWER 90: Tony Horton's Total Body Transformation 90 Day Boot Camp Workout DVDs it really does stimulate your metabolic rate..and for me where i do literally nothing but cubicle-lize for the greater part of a 10 hour work day...this lets me know im alive and the rewards are coming! Thanks Mike!

Wonderful!
I just wrote a review for the Original flavor giving it four stars since the smell would make my wife nauseous. The chocolate flavor is a whole different ball game! It tastes like chocolate milk (and almost makes my nostalgic for camping with the boy scouts). The recovery drinks are VERY effective. When starting a new workout (especially after being out of shape for a while) I would always be unable to work out the next day because of muscle soreness, lack of energy, stiffness, etc. In fact, sometimes I'd be out for multiple days. This drink makes all the difference. I can work out to muscle failure and still get up the next day and push hard in my workout. My wife and I have been doing P90X for a little while now and it makes a HUGE difference. Others have stated that this is a great alternative to the P90X brand recovery drink and I would have to agree. Great price, great value. Thanks Mike!
