Speedball Hunt Artists' Pen Nibs--Crow Quill No. 102 pack of 2

Durrable within reason.
I've been using these pretty much every day for 3 years now, and I know a lot of people who also use them. You can get a lot of line variation out of them, and since I can't stand using brushes, that's a big plus. Multiple people have mistaken my work for brush with these, so yeah, there's a lot of flexibility. I'm also the only person I know who has ever shattered one, and I've done it twice, so you know, be careful out there.Be sure to buy a couple sticks (not sure what they're called, the plastic holder things) because this box doesn't come with them, and since the stick is plastic, it stretches out after a while, and new nibs won't stay.

Wonderful Product, would highly recommend
After losing my nibs I decided to order these as replacements for my sketch inking pen and they fit and work perfectly!

Precise and Flexible
Takes a bit of getting used to but crow quill nibs are awesome. They hold a surprising amount of ink and have a great deal of flexibility. These, and the "spoon" style (512/513EF) are my favorites. If I had to pick one type over the other, I'd have to fossa coin.

Great for Fine Lines
It took a lot of practice with crow quills before I learned to love them. Even now that I feel like I've figured them out, I don't use them for writing. For drawing though, I love the extremely fine lines they're able to achieve and the surprising potential for variations in line width with subtle differences in pressure on the paper. For calligraphy, they're very useful for embellishing - whether you're detailing intricate black letter majuscules or adding loops and flourishes to copperplate. Just keep in mind that it will take a lot of practice and patience to get crow quills to behave like they should.

They are great for freehand drawing.
I love crow quill pens for ink drawings. The Pigma pens are great but you are more free in your lines with these nibs!

works well with any ink,
works well with any ink, creates clean and detailed lines for artwork and imagery you want to outline before scanning

Thin, brittle, breaks easily and not easy to get the nib out of the quill.
I haven't been able to use these because I can't get the original nibs out of the quills without breaking them off and essentially rendering the quill completely useless. The ink gets between the nib and the quill and essentially glues it in place. If I try to soak it in water to dissolve the ink, the nibs rust so quickly that they shatter when I put any pressure on them at all. I tried using alcohol instead, but the metal is so thin that it became brittle and shattered. These are my favorite nibs to use for calligraphy, but it's just too expensive to buy a whole new nib/quill every time one breaks (which is often).
