The Utter Zoo: An Alphabet

This is a fun (and different) small book. The book shows 26 mythical/fantastical animals, all beginning with a letter of the alphabet, and has a little rhyme about those animals. A true delight

Gorey wrote and illustrated a number of imaginative if somewhat sinister abecedaria for grown-ups. The Utter Zoo is a nonsinister gem that you and your kid can both enjoy on repeated readings. Probably the most satisfying treatment of the letter X you'll ever encounter in an ABC.

Funny as all get-out

I bought this for my son's 5th birthday. We love to read at bedtime, and I know he's going to get a kick out of this one!

We are very Addam's-familyesque...our veneration of the macabre is nearly religious. Naturally we love Gorey. The art, innuendo & intelligence are wondrous.

Great fun to share with kids - so much to share and discover. Very different from ordinary, though excellent, children's books. It's what you make of it.

This is a fab wee book - dark and fun all at once. I love hearing how Dad/Grandparents pronounce the imaginative beasts!
