Can this device work with a monitoring service?  I want to be the monitoring service and have the notifications sent to my phone.

You have to use Medical Guardian's subscription monitoring service. They will in turn call the people/entities (including 911) on your customized call list. But the initial call always goes to the call center.

There are, however, systems available on Amazon that will send the notifications directly to you (or whoever you designate) and do not require a monthly subscription. When you search on Amazon, just look for medical alert systems that say something like "no monthly fees." Some will only contact one person or only 911; others will sequentially call several people.

Because of unsatisfactory pre-purchase customer service from Medical Guardian (both here on Amazon and directly from the company), we're now looking into self-monitored systems ourselves. Those systems cost about the same as about 8 months of many subscription services with comparable features.  So in addition to avoiding a call center, they might also save us some big bucks over time.

Question 2

Since we would own the equipment, when we cancelled, cancellation would be effective immediately, correct?

IMO... Canceling programs after failed attempts? I would probably notify them in writing, send them a letter, and block them at the bank. Or just block them at the bank. They're dragging their feet intentionally if they can squeeze another month out of you it sure sounds like they're going to do it.

My dad has his phone service through spectrum and he has fiber optic. Will this work with that type of landline?

Accepted Answer

It should work with any phone service that provides a dial tone on your phone line.  Just remember that if the power goes out you would need an additional battery backup for your router/phone equipment. Typically landlines from a Telco aren’t affected by power outages (unless lines have also been cut) but VoIP/Internet phones are dependent on power.   The backup included with this product’s base station only covers that and assumes a Telco landline.

If looking for the longest runtimes, look for a DC router backup.  Since the router takes DC power using a standard UPS ends up converting stored DC to AC, then the brick on your router converts it back.  This wastes energy and costs runtime.
