Hello ~ Has anyone purchased this set recently (spring 2014): is this item made in wood only or is it still a mix of wood and plastic as mentioned in some older reviews? Thank you.

I bought this about a year ago, and before purchasing also couldn't figure out if it was part plastic / part wood.  Well, they are not ALL wood but I will say that I don't think the plastic parts have affected the use of the product.  They are still in use at our house on a regular basis with children from age 2-8, mostly our 2 and 4 year olds.  There is one, maybe two pieces which they have a difficult time screwing together all the way, but they just work around it.  I would still buy them again because they are fun!  Hope this helps. :)

Can anyone confirm whether the screw-portion of this toy, as sold on Amazon, is wood or plastic?  Thanks!

The screw-portion is plastic.  We have had ours for a few years and have had no problems with them.  They are sometimes a little hard for small hands to twist "all the way" together, but none have broken and they have never cross-threaded.  I have young boys and they are not always gentle.  These are fun and durable.  I would recommend them even though the thought of the plastic scew seems cheap.
