Can it print both sides?

No it can’t print on both sides

I need this for printing plates for a printing press. Will this printer work for that?

I got the printer at a garage sale for an amazingly low price and have never regretted it - the printer keeps working and produces excellent output. As for making plates for a printing press, it depends on which press and what it requires as a master document. I understand the "standard" dpi for printing presses used to be 1200 dpi - I haven't any more recent info on that. If your press takes ordinary bond and output from a laser printer, it might work, but I suggest you review both the input needs for your press and the output options for the printer, which Hp would have on its web pages, or someone on the Internet may have posted specs for the Hp 1020. Since I don't do printing press operations, that is about all I can say. I hope this helps.

this printer is no longer supported (i.e. no available driver to run printer)!!!!

I ordered this printer and when I tried to set it up (access driver) I wasn't able to find a 'driver' for this printer and received messages that this printer is no longer supported --- so totally useless. Cannot believe Amazon sold an item that is outdated. Over the past couple of months I reached out to friends who are tech savvy and they too cannot find a driver for the printer. I want to return this printer for a refund!

I've owned my for 12 years and never a moment's trouble!

I LOVE the HP Laserjet 1020. Installation on Windows 7 was automatic and effortless. It has never once jammed paper. The toner cartridge is right on top in front and super easy to replace. The print quality is beautiful and the cartridge lasts me 3 or 4 years. That's a great value, especially when you realize LD on Amazon has replacement cartridges for $15! (Whereas the HP brand cartridges run about $90!) The Paper tray looks like it holds maybe 70 sheets, which is absolutely fine for my home and home/office use. This model came about before BlueTooth and wireless printing became popular, so all it has is a direct USB cable connection. So if you need remote or wireless printing, get something else, but otherwise, you simply cannot go wrong with this model. If you do mostly monochrome printing, you should get this, and do the occasional color print job at Office Max or Kinkos or something for the 30c a page. You will save a LOT of money by not having to buy 3 color cartridges PLUS the black. -- ejw
