This was recommended to me by a criminologist I know and I really enjoyed it. I spent a career dealing with some of these behaviours and only wish I had read the book thirty years ago.

I can't believe this is written in 1988! Books on crime now-a-days lack a phenomenological perspective. Despite some sexist language, this is a must read for anyone interested in crime or criminology.

I found this book a somewhat tiresome read in places. Each chapter started off great and sucked me in. However, towards the halfway mark the text became repetitious to the point that I skipped to the final few paragraphs. The text tends to be overly wordy in places too. That said, Katz presents a compelling account of the seductions of crime, chapters one (Righteous Slaughter), two (Sneaky thrills) and nine (Seductions and Repulsions of Crime) are well worth reading.
