After spending a great deal of time trying to increase the correction level we gave up and made the phone call. There are three correction levels listed in the book, timid, active and hyper for more aggressive dogs . What the book does not tell you is you need different collars for different levels. They no longer even sell the timid collar. The kit comes with the active category collar. If your dog is extremely stubborn or aggressive you need a different collar in order to program into the hyper setting. The active collar, although you can program up to 8, the highest correction level is actually number 5. Above 5 is called progressive, whatever that means. I still don’t know what that means. We also learned that sometimes you need to remove the cover to the unit in order to get the hold down buttons to engage. Although we received the kit a little over a month ago it’s only been in use for two weeks. When we learned there is an LED light on the collar we were unable to get it to light up following the customer service instructions.Fortunately we had already ordered replacement batteries and then the light lit. I think the battery may have been old when we received it. The manual is poorly written and really should be updated. Now that I’m through grumbling, I do want to tell you I think the system is a good system. My boyfriend had owned his own invisible fence company for quite a few years back in time and he feels it’s a good system. It’s just updatting the manual could improve the owners satisfaction with the system immensely.

The Extreme Dog Fence Max Grade system comes with an awkwardly designed collar. It also comes with directions that would appear to indicate you would put the parts of the collar together yourself, which would have been better, but that’s not the case. It’s pre-assembled and can’t be changed without leaving 2 holes in the side of the collar where they mounted the battery pack in the wrong place. It’s off balance and puts the clasp you need to put collar on and off dog a mere 2 inches from the pre-mounted battery pack. It’s awkward and when I contacted the seller I was told there’s nothing they can do. This is how it’s produced. The battery pack should have been mounted opposite the clasp.

The collar is set at the factory at a random setting, so to avoid shocking your dog, make sure that you program the collar before you start training. Setting the range is important as weel so the dog gets sufficient warning before being shocked.The battery only that came with the collar lasted 6 only weeks. When trying to find a new battery, there only appears to be one replacement option. Not good for the consumer considering the battery is expensive, is not rated well and does not last long. This is equivalent to buying an inexpensive printer and paying a lot of money for printer toner from a sole source every year.

I have a very active and fast chocolate lab/hound mix. She lives to run! The 1.5 acre containment was installed by me alone in less than a day including trrenching and extending the braided loop. (Use a lawn edger to make the trench.. you can do after you lay out and condition animal). The guide includes a detailed conditioning program THAT MUST BE FOLLOWED. The multiple levels allow you to customize collar correction. My girl learned to tun fast and jump fence. I widened the field and set to max and she learned respect. Once the dog is conditioned this is an impenetrable barrier. Nothing can get her to cross including rabbits, other dogs, deer, etc... Love how it can be left above ground or submerged as well.

For creating a fence through which a dog will not pass, this product is excellent. It really does what the manufacturer claims it will do. I cannot give it 5 stars though for one reason, the surge protector is impossible to use. The prongs which are supposed to hold the wires are useless, just thinking about them will cause the wires to drop out. This has been mentioned in other reviews and for some reason the company does nothing about it. Essentially the customers are paying for an item they cannot use.

The product is incredible but as everybody says the instructions are ridiculously difficult most likely not translated well. If you want to know how to install it you’re better off to look at all the customer reviews for tips because you’re not gonna get it much in the manual

The equipment seems to be of quality. I wrapped 2 acres for the pooch. Works great! Highly recommend.
