Just received my copy yesterday and it’s a beautiful book. Donald Bogle is the preeminent biographer of Black Hollywood and his devotion to his subject matter is on brilliant display. The layout is a fascinating, engaging and awe-inspiring trek from the cotton fields to Wakanda. The photos are gorgeous.The foreward by the now late John Singleton is bittersweet yet touching.Mr. Bogle has tirelessly chronicled Black Hollywood without selfishly inserting himself into its narrative but I hope he’ll share his expertise of his own experience one day because he’s seamless intertwined in his subject now.

A great retrospective of historic resource for the development of the performers actors actresses and filmmakers that were gifted and an everlasting spectrum for today and tomorrow's new generation.

This is an amazing book that is full of information about the many black actors and actresses that have played such an important part in the movie industry. I love watching Donald Bogle, whenever he is on TCM discussing a movie. This book provides information about not only the people but also the movies. I knew that he was an expert on classical movies but in this book you realize that he has important insight into movies that from every decade.This is the kind of book that you will read over and over. It is an invaluable resource. It is intersting and easy to read.The book is worth it just for the pictures. This is one book that you do not want on a Kindle or Nook or other devices. I think that you would not enjoy the pictures as much. There are pictures of actors and actresses from various time periods.I know it is sometimes hard to believe reviews, but once you have it you will understand why there are so many 5 star ratings.

Fascinating beautiful historical book on the story of Black actors,directors,producers and movies from silent film to now.. A great tribute to long gone and forgotten Black actors and actresses.

Flicked through this book before sitting down to read it in full. Looks great, with an interesting overview of Black Hollywood past and present! Would recommend this book to friends!!

This book not only has an excellent title for the contents inside, but also contains an educational facts about the African American black struggle in Hollyweird.

The book has so many beautiful pictures and information. I only wish the pages weren't silky so my little fingerprints would leave prints on the page. Otherwise, this is a BEAUTIFUL portrait of history and tribute to the Black community. 🖤❤🖤
