More power holes!
I needed more outlets in my truck and after looking at a few and reading some of their reviews I pretty much went 'eeny meeny miny moe' and ended up getting this one. It's a hefty well constructed plastic box with 4 outlets and a nice long cord. Small enough it fits perfectly where I wanted it. The receptacles are tight and the plugs fit snug and securely. Most importantly, it works without any problems. So far I only have a dash cam and a small video monitor being powered from it and they've started up every time like they should when the key is turned and this extender gets power. Supposedly it only has a 10 amp fuse, so take that into account if you plan on running anything heavy through it. My monitor and dash cam are only drawing like maybe 1 amp total, so 4 similar devices shouldn't be a problem either. It comes with two options to mount it; Small slide out tabs in the body that you use provided screws with, or double-sided foam tape. I wasn't keen on drilling holes so I opted for the double-sided tape. That lasted about 3 minutes before just falling off where I was attempting to mount it sideways. This box isn't that heavy, but heavier than the cheap tape can think about holding up. It might work okay if you just had it sitting and the tape was simply a means to stop it from sliding around. But don't even bother trying to use it if you plan on mounting it under or on the side of something. I got some scotch 3m extreme mounting tape instead and it's stuck on well. So aside from the worthless double-sided tape, I'm happy with it.

Great 12v multi tap. Works as advertised.
The materials used are great. Seems well put together. Comes with mounting screws and double sided tape if u wanna mount it. Also, the unit has a socket that supports the use of a cigarette lighter if u smoke. My only big complaint is that the sockets are not capped. Iโd like to see individual caps or lids for each socket. I use this in a work truck and dirt, grass, salt and general dust will get into the multi tap sockets that are vacant and not in use. This will cause premature failure in time. Especially with salt. If you mount this with sockets pointing downwards debris will have no chance of accumulating in the sockets. However that makes finding a suitable mounting location a bit more tricky. All in all I still give 5 stars because itโs not like they falsely advertised having caps on all sockets. I knew it didnโt. So Iโm not deducting a star. I will use painters tape to cover any sockets not in use to prevent foriegn debris from collecting in the sockets for now. Great product. Just needs protective caps. Would buy again.

Good one (10A) and OK for hardwiring into the electrical system
The cigar lighter socket in my car (2001 Audi TT) is in an awkward place (I have to open up the ash tray which looks bad and gets in the way of things), and to make things worse it's a very shallow socket that doesn't do a terribly good job of securely holding most connectors. Basically my car seems to have come with the worst possible cigar lighter socket I could imagine. It's as if the designer didn't know you could plug accessories into a cigar socket. Duh! So I decided to buy a product like this and hardwire it into the electrical system, then just not use the original cigar socket anymore. Except for the cable length, this thing is pretty much perfect. The box is no bigger than it needs to be, and the cable length is probably fine if you're just going to plug it into your existing cigar socket. It would probably also be fine if I took the dashboard apart and wired it directly to the bus bar, but I wanted to run a wire from a fuse tap like this one in the fuse box to make installation much easier. So I cut the cigar connector off of the cable and used some bullet plug crimp connectors like these to extend it with some additional wire. This worked nicely and I can now unplug it from the electrical system (if needed) up closer to the unit without even having to open the fuse box. I ran the wire to the fuse box, tapped the cigar lighter's fuse socket with the tap (which doesn't disconnect the original cigar lighter), and put in a 10A fuse (same rating as the one in the connector I cut off). Wallah! More power sockets than I'll probably ever need, and ones that are actually deep enough to hold connectors securely. The typical Velcro that comes with these things is pretty wimpy, both the hooks/loops and the adhesive on the strips. Though the box is very light, it'll get heavier with stuff plugged into it, and I didn't want the thing going anywhere unless I wanted to remove it. So I used a big patch of industrial Velcro that was big enough to cover the entire mounting side of the thing and stuck it under the dashboard. That thing is NOT going ANYWHERE. Pulling the Velcro apart would probably be very difficult, and that adhesive isn't letting go without a heat gun or something. After getting unlucky with the crappy built-in cigar socket, I got lucky with this thing and managed to find the perfect spot where it's totally out of view, in the center of the underside dash, still reachable, and back under the ashtray where it won't block the ashtray door or anything else. (See my "customer photos".) It's VERY good that this thing is no larger than it needs to be, or I probably wouldn't be able to manage that. The "cons" of this unit, which aren't that bad and probably won't affect most people: - I sort of wanted to get one with a USB port, but most of those had three sockets and seemed a bit awkward. With this one I have four sockets, and if I want to convert one or more into a USB port all I have to do is plug in an adapter. Furthermore, with a built-in USB port the voltage/current adapter for the USB port is built in to the box where you can't just instantly pull it out and replace it if it goes bad. So personally I would go with more sockets and a USB adapter or two rather than get one of these things with a built-in USB port. USB car adapters are cheap anyway. - The unit is "only" rated for 10A, which is actually the best I could find, but the built-in lighter socket is fused for (and I assume rated at) 15A. In most situations I wouldn't need 15A, but I happen to have a 150W AC power inverter similar to this one which could draw up to 12.5A in theory. In order to avoid any fuse-blowing, I'll have to either plug this into the crappy original lighter socket to use it, or probably take the dashboard apart and hardware it to the bus bar/chassis with a 15A fuse. I haven't seen any fuse taps rated at above 10A, so fuse taps probably won't work for 15A stuff, and even if this box was rated for 15A the fuse tap would limit it to 10A anyway. So I guess I'll have another project later. Luckily I hardly ever need the inverter. But anyway, keep in mind that most AC inverters are going to use up to 12.5A (at least) and so it's not advisable to plug one into this 10A rated device as it may blow the fuse in the connector depending on what you try to power with the inverter. Luckily it seems like laptop power supplies are usually around 60W or something so I'd probably be OK powering a laptop with this, but still the full standard 15A would eliminate any doubt. - As previously mentioned, a longer cable would be useful for some applications, but it's probably long enough to reach to the back seat of most vehicles except maybe large vans and SUVs. Most people on here seem happy with the cable length. - There's an LED on the thing that stays lit as long as it's receiving power. This isn't really ideal for hardwiring to unswitched power since the LED will be on all the time, even with the car off. Luckily LEDs don't burn too much power, so this may be a non-issue unless I let my car sit for a month without starting it. I'll just monitor the battery voltage and see if it's draining enough power to make any difference. Stuff like the alarm system in the car is draining power all the time anyway, so some LEDs may not be significant. I also have a hardwired GPS power supply with an LED that will be draining some power too, but if it seems like it's going to be a problem I'll just install a switch. So this product looks like one of the best of its type. It may be limited to 10A, but I haven't seen any socket extenders like this that were rated for more than 10A even though the standard for a cigar socket seems to be 15A. A lot of the extenders I looked at were only rated for 8A, 5A, or even less. So this one is one of the better ones. Whichever socket extender you buy, DON'T get one rated at less than 10A! You may not need 10A most of the time, but with some crappy 5A extender you're likely to blow the fuse at some point, and for little reason. There seems to be no real cost savings in getting one of these rated for less than 10A.

Perfect
Great product. I've owned various DC outlet splitters of different types over the years. Mostly cheap ones from Walmart. They've generally held up for a year or 2 until either the wires get frayed at the connection points or I burn the fuse out accidently by plugging in too high of an amp product or trying to recharge my car battery through a backup power source routed through the splitter and forgetting to unplug it as I tried to crank the engine (kids, don't try this at home). The key is, for these socket extender/splitters, is to get a nice, heavy duty cord and high amp fuse. This device has both. Other plugs I've got would multiply the outlet from 1 to 2 or from 1 to 3. I really wanted one to plug in all my gadgets and this unit exceeded my requirements with 1 to 4 sockets. It's solid, well built, sturdy and feels and look like it won't break or overheat and can handle 10 amps total for all 4 plugs (which is plenty for me). Just don't plug in higher amp products like a Coleman cooler (which I have) and an heated defroster fan or after-market seat heaters at the same time. When in doubt, just add up the amps of the various devices and make sure they don't exceed 10. Coleman coolers us 5 amps for comparison. A cell charger uses about 1 amp and my Garmin Nuvi charger uses 1 amp and an iPad charger uses around 2-3 amps. The packaging says 1 of the outlets can be used as a cigarette lighter. The packaging also states "The maximum output current of the socket is 10A." I assume this means 10 amps for all 4 sockets. However, it makes no mention if the fuse protects all 4 outlets including the cigarette lighter one. It's conceivable they bypassed the fuse and hard-wired the cigarette lighter outlet but routed power for the remaining 3 outlets through the on-board 10 amp fuse. But you can't tell from the packaging. I can only assume they made all 4 outlets go through the same 10 amp fuse which means if you engage a cigarette lighter (presumably drawing 4-7 amps) at the same time some other higher amp device is plugged in, you'll burn out the socket extender's fuse (which I assume is easily replaceable). Anyway, this device is just what I wanted. I don't use a cigarette lighter socket for lighting cigarettes. So now I can plug in my cell, gps, radar detector, and PC chargers all at the same time. And for $13 w/shipping, it was just a few bucks more than the $9 low-quality ones at Walmart.

Good extension but difficult to mount it
Price in Indian rupees is high. One odd thing is the absence of a cap to protect when there is no plug in. The inner side of the socket seems a little low quality stuff. It is not easy to mount on the dashboard. Used Velcro. However the dhesive doesn't work well using such strips on the plastic trim of the dashboard. Need to find alternative. Deciding where to mount is also an issue.
