One Touch Ultra 2 Blood Glucose Monitoring System

I have used "One Touch" meters for years and I have always liked their reasonable price and ease to use.

Had to buy another one hope it lasts many years as well.

This glucometer is very accurate. I calebrated it with my doctors office equipment. The lancet part is very hard to get out of the slot. This seems to be the only problem.

I bought this meter to replace one that was lost. like the speed and size of it.

It came fast. But keeps giving errors when reading

I had been using the original One Touch Ultra with all the bells & whistles for about 4 years. Frankly, for my purposes, it was too much. I found it difficult to read, too many buttons, too many strip security number checks that required responding when I had a drop of blood on my finger already to go. Going back through history was arduous and inefficient. I must also say that I had no interest in the computer interface. I keep a simple Excel log manually. I also had a pretty good remaining inventory of Ultra Blue Test Strips so I needed any new meter to be able to use those.The old meter started to fail so I ordered the One Touch Ultra 2. Through Amazon, the price was reasonable enough that I didn't bother with possible insurance coverage, I just bought it. It's just what I was looking for. Easy to read, simple to program and operate, accurate and a great history log display with averaging if you want to do that. I really like the backlight feature when it's needed.

When my old reliable Ultra 2 meter stopped working, I searched for a replacement. I had quite a few test strips already purchased and wanted a meter that would work with them. I was very happy to find the exact same meter and at a great price. Works great-- quick, easy, and my insurance provides strips for this meter at no charge!

The Ultra2 is a relatively simple model among the range of blood glucose meters available today. It does its job adequately, storing up to 500 readings and allowing downloads to review them using software that can be obtained from the manufacturer OneTouch. I've used it for years in preference to some higher priced models simply because of its relative simplicity. It's as good as there is out there.The only problem I have is that the Ultra2, like other blood glucose meters, uses a technology that should have been replaced already. Using sticks that absorb blood at the end of the stick is difficult, particularly for those whose eyesight is worse than it was a few years ago. Many sticks per month may be wasted by not applying the right blood droplet size, or by not lining the stick up correctly, or by a finger tremble. Or, as I've found, the blood may not adhere so easily to the end of the stick when the blood glucose is low - the very time you need a good measurement. In short, a better means of measurement is needed, particularly for a monitor type that is used by millions of people 2 to ten times a day.Still, among all those existing meters with their aging but technology and highly profitable cost basis, the ultra2 measures up very well. I still use it, seven times daily, and will continue to do so until a newer technology appears on the market.
