Conversion: The Spiritual Journey of a Twentieth Century Pilgrim

A Wonderful Goodbye, But Not Really...
I have enjoyed reading this book and I know that it will continue to serve as a reminder of the beauty and importance of faith. Mr. Malcolm Muggeridge has this sense or even undercurrent of relinquishing life and moving ahead into the glorious 'unknown'. His language is from the third person's point of view from the beginning which captures his life as a young child burgeoning into adulthood, and later on in the book, it seems that his writings that were previously published were interpolated to serve as a conclusion that beautifully fits the entire book. I almost cried when I finished reading it because I thought it was an end for this brilliant writer and thinker, but then again, his words still haunt me whenever I think about life, culture, beauty, art, politics, and history. And of course, as long as we have his writings, it really is not the end for this amazing writer but rather, just as he tries to relate himself to Eternity his words are Eternal.

Thoughtful autobiography of spiritual seeker who became Catholic
Malcolm Muggeridge's journey from atheistic public wit and journalist to Christianity is a fascinating one. In the 1970s, his book "Something Beautiful for God" helped put Mother Teresa's work for the poor on the map, and his admiration of her work led him to embrace Anglicanism as an old man. Then the historically significant election of Pope John Paul II, a staunch anti-communist from Poland in the height of the Cold War, helped push "Mugg" to convert to Catholicism in 1980. Muggeridge had personally met John Paul II at the Vatican. This very thin volume is the only book this British wit wrote after becoming Catholic. It tells the story of his conversion to Catholicism and offers, in frank and sometimes heterodox words, his own understanding of the Catholic faith. This is a great book for anyone who struggles to be Catholic, is thinking about being Catholic, or is simply curious about why pop culture icons like Muggeridge (not to mention Alec Guinness, John Wayne, and Bob Hope) choose to become Catholic.

As Expected ... And Not
What a terrific read. If there is anyone like Muggeridge writing today, I donβt know who that person is.
