Most excellent with PREMIUM butane.
Works like a dream with premium butane. I can recommend Colibri but there are other tripleI'd bought the Zippo-branded insert and Zippo fuel first but no amount of bleeding/adjustments helped. Useless. This baby was Plan B, which got filled from my full can of Zippo butane, and got the same results as Plan A. The eventually successful Plan C switched-up the fuel. I went with Colibri because it's sold everywhere and I have no patience. Guess tf what? I've now got two most excellent butane Zippos. I love it when a plan comes together.

The best
I've used this brand of lighter for many years. I do have to replace them occasionally, but I get some years use. I've seen bad reviews on Amazon, but I don't care

Adjustable and reliable flame
Yea you can buy cheap jet lighters but they are "cheap" . The flame of the Z-Plus when adjusted to a narrow single flame half the height of the one in the photo (try that with the cheapo) is perfect to light my small pipe. There is no interference from the Zippo lid and absolutely no heat on my fingers. Very little is needed to ignite the tiny amount I put in my pipe so little fuel is used. At this rate of fuel consumption the lighter will not need filled as often either.Coupled with the Zippo logo Spectrum case this is not only the finest flame of any lighter I have ever had but the most beautiful case as well. The experience of operating this lighter is quite pleasurable aside from whats in the bowl. Total for case and insert is $31.50 incl. tx and shipping. Worth the price as this beauty is not only functional but unique. This is a great lighter even without the case. I use it like that at home but install it in the case when going out.The trigger has a quality feel, firm and smooth. The case fits in your hand and can be gripped firmly.

Maintenance is the key
For the price this is a pretty good lighter. I am a pipe smoker so mine gets used a lot and don't expect any lighter to last forever. I get about a year of use before the spark cam gives out. That is longer than I was getting out of some much more expensive lighters. In fact, the hinge on a Zippo case usually wears out before the second Z-plus dies.As with any torch lighter a little maintenance will keep it alive longer. First off, the little orifices tend to clog over time. If it lights at all the flame separates from the orifice plate and becomes unstable. A little cotton wrapped around a toothpick and dipped in alcohol will soften the crud and a quick blast of compressed air clears it right up. Second, air accumulates in the fuel tank restricting how much gas it will hold and making it harder to light. Vent the lighter every 3 or 4 fills. Add just a little butane then use a small object to depress the filler valve until the hiss stops then fill normally. Third, if it refuses to light, watch the spark. 90% of the time the problem is crud build up at the base of the electrode or the insulation on the electrode has broken down allowing the spark to jump to the side rather than to the center of the orifices. Clean the lighter with some alcohol. If that doesn't work, using a gem clip or small wire as an applicator, apply a small drop of liquid electrical tape to the base of the electrode and let it dry. I have extended the life of my Z-plus for several months that way.

a great addition
As a former cigarette smoker turned cigar smoker I have a few zippo lighters lying around. One or two of them have sentimental value so I didn't want to discard them. A fluid lighter such as zippo will impart a rather strong flavor to a cigar, this is a perfect solution. It fit perfectly inside the housing of the zippo lighter my wife gave me when we first started dating. I'm very glad to have found this so I can still use something special to me in my new hobby. I recommend using quality butane rather than the cheapest stuff you can find. Cheap butane that is not highly refined will clog the jet or orifice tube and the insert will cease to light. With quality butane this thing works like a champ every time. I wish the fuel reservoir was a bit bigger but it will last through half a dozen cigars before needing a refuel. I am very pleased with this insert and have recommended it to the followers of my blog. If you want to breath new life into a zippo lighter for cigar smoking or if you're just tired of fooling with messy fluid refills, this product is for you.
