One Piece, Vol. 16: Carrying On His Will

Great art and a must have if you have already got this far in the story. We get the introduction of everyone's favorite doctor and even a foreshadow of the Blackbeard pirates very cool stuff.

It sucks when a little reindeer has you bawling. Chopper is such a wonder delight of a character, a reminiscence of Frankenstein, and his sincere reactions to his mentor are adorable. I think I had to keep setting the novel down because I half way between crying for Choppers trials, betrayals, and heart breaks and awing over his complex childlike heart. Thank you Oda for making another great character in the series!

"Carrying On His Will" features a long flashback story about a doctor the origin of a blue-nosed reindeer monster, which should be enough for you to either want to read this volume or give up. But I wouldn't give up.

I recently read this manga and I must say the symbolism behind Choppers addition to the crew is very heart-warming. Him going from an outcast to having a crew in the Straw Hat Pirates where he can carry on the dream of Dr. Hiriluk to heal any illness is very touching.

A MUST READ FOR ALL MANGA FANS, ONE PIECE FANS, ANIME FANS... btw I started watching One Piece anime before reading the Manga... I then decided to get the manga and read them. They are amazing :D

This volume tells the tearjerker story of chopper the reindeer. It ends with the beginning of the major battle of the arc.

One piece volume 16 is a great manga that shows the bravery and loyalty of all the characters. YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!

Even if you look in every nook and cranny, you would not find someone like Dr. Hiluluk. This was the most moving volume of all. By the way, Tony Tony Chopper is adorable.

海外でも人気が高いというこのマンガがどんなかたちで輸出されているのか、という点に興味があったので英語版を買ってみることにした。もちろん全巻は揃えられないので、戦闘シーンが比較的少なく読み込めそうなこの巻を選択。結論として、言語は違えどやはり泣けた。おもしろかったのはセリフの英単語がすべて大文字で書かれていること。見慣れない字面なので、最初は知っている単語でもピンとこなかった。裏表紙の裏側（表3）、すなわち横書きの本をめくって最初に目に入る場所に「右から左に読んでね」という注意書きがイラスト付きであり（もちろん英語）、軽いカルチャー･ショックを受けた。

中学生の子供に読めるかどうか試してみようと思い、一番好きなこの巻の英語版を購入しました。 One Piece, Vol. 16 日本のコミックスより一回り大きいです。カバーはついていません。読み進める向きは縦書きと同じですが、縦書き用のふきだしに英語が入るため、長い単語は区切られて改行されています。擬音も全部英語になっています。SBSはそのまま英訳、ウソップギャラリーは海外の投稿者の作品のようです。子供は音を上げて、日本語版と突合せで読んでいました（笑）。大体順当な訳となっていますが、「ドクトリーヌと呼びな」「イッシー２０」とか、ちょっとニュアンスを伝えにくそうな部分は遊びのない訳となっていました。それにしても、英語版でも感動のシーンはやっぱりいいです。勉強のため、とかではなく、英語に慣れたいのなら手にとってみるのもいいのではないでしょうか。 One Piece, Vol. 16

One piece is my favourite series for it's creative character designs , weird style, outlandish humor and simple yet deep/ enchanting story telling approach. Both visually and , this series has inspired in a unique way which almost no other comic/animated titles from japan have done before.This volume brings us a new addition to the main cast of characters and a heartful tale !Tony Tony Chopper may just look like another one of those annoyingly cute and adorable mascot characters that seem to be a traditional staple in these kinds of series , but he's so much more than that!Just like the rest of the central cast he has a strong back story which explains his personality and the way he acts , his background story is even better than a lot of the characters around so far and is definitely one of my favourites.Just see him as a human child, full of innocence and naivety ,what he is on the inside !He is slowly going to mature as the story goes on, as he explores the world with his new friends !This volume deals with the middle part of the Drum Kingdom sub-arc, which is one of the more enjoyable sub-arcs in my opinion. The highlight of the volume is definitely the background story of Chopper , as it's full of loneliness , friendship , heart , hope and tears. Very inspiring and touching , as are most of the tales behind the characters from this series.One of the most enjoyable books that have been released so far in english , especially since there aren't any tedious fighting scenes that drag on too long in this volume.My only gripe , is that the translated english version by Viz, seem to have a lot dialogue similar to the 4kids TV version. And 4kids can come up some pretty rubbish dialogue that doesn't fit.The english version , because a lot of dialogue in this Viz translation seems to miss/ step around the point of a lot of the japanese dialogue in a lot of scenes.But other than that, most of the english manga version is good enough, although the impact of some of the lines / jokes / scenes have been reduced due to dialogue changes.I think translators should be so creative sometimes.
