Genius Food Prep System
"The Instant Pot Meals in a Jar Cookbook" is a brilliant guide for creating a variety of easy meals that you can prep up to months in advance. Pamela Ellgen guides the reader through how to source the many ingredients her mason jar recipes call for and then gives you the recipes for filling those jars up! The basic premise is pre-portioning the dry ingredients for meals into mason jars, and then combining with broth/water/cream/butter (depending on the recipe) in the instant pot to have a quick, delicious meal! Ellgen recommends a shelf life based on the ingredient in each recipe that would first expire, which means that most jars are good for ~3 months, and some for longer than that! This meal prep system is genius because of the longevity that the prepped meals have. It's easier to store in bulk (no worrying about having freezer space!) and it will sustain you in those meal panic moments for more than just a week or two. I can't recommend this book highly enough - has changed my meal planning entirely for the better!

Ready to Cook at Any Time
It seems most everyone got an instant pot pressure cooker for the holidays. We had the excitement of making some of the recipes that came with the directions, but the instant pot was starting to sit at the back of the cabinet. Until – I discovered this book! There are so many things right about this book. The concept of getting all the ingredients together in a jar, and being ready to cook at any time is just brilliant. Just seeing those beautiful jars layered in my pantry make my heart sing (photo). This book is practical! The 1-quart mason jars are so easy to find, and the perfect meal size. The dried fruits and vegetables are easy to find in my area – and the book points out that online is an excellent resource, no matter where you live. With the meals organized in jars (photo), and vegetable, chicken or beef broth on hand, you go from pot to table by the time the table is set.

EASY
I like this book a lot. I have used a pressure cooker in the past, but ultimate I just don't like cooking or the prep work- and this is pretty easy. Most of the recipes have a very limited ingredient list and that makes life easy for me. I was a little confused at first about finding all this dried food- I didn't realize this was meant to be a "pack ahead" kind of meal- you literally use mostly dry ingredients then you can just add the fresh items up to 6 weeks later- or was it 3 months? It depends on the ingredients, but if you find a recipe you love- BAM you can make 6 jars of it ready to go after a rough day to just pop in the instant pot with one or two additions. I think I'll even make a gift of this to a friend at some point, she eats meat and I don't so once I find my favorites (pumpkin spice steel cut oats mmmm), then I can hand it off for the carnivores. There's something for everyone is what I'm trying to say here!

I am taking my Instant Pot on my next RV vacation.
If you own a Instant Pot, this book is for you. There are 50 recipes, prepared in a jar, just waiting to be prepared. The pictures make these recipes even more appetizing as well as beautiful. Ingredients used are easily accessible if you do not already have them. All are dried. Many can be purchased in the bulk foods aisle at your local grocery store. I really like that the shelf life for these prepared meal is between 3 and 6 months. The recipes are for Breakfast, snacks, sides, soups, just add meat, pasta and grains, beans and legumes, and of course desserts and drinks. Something new I learned with this book is that you can use pyrex, bundt pans or other pans inside the Instant Pot. This just adds more uses for this valuable appliance. I am taking my Instant Pot on my next RV vacation.

THE BEST!
This book has the BEST instant pot recipes for meals in a jar!! I am literaaaaallly so obsessed with it. I am a big fan of pre-measured meals! They save so much time and effort. Pair that up with an instant pot and it's like someone made my dreams come true! I love the beautiful photos in this book that make every single meal mouthwatering. Truly, you aer going to want to try everything. I love that it's organized in a way that makes sense from breakfast to snacks to including meat and even some amazin dessert - the vanilla rice pudding came out so bomb. I am not a big coffee or tea drinker but I sure love chai - that spiced chai recipe is my new go-to. Thank you!!

So great for keeping a busy life organized
What I love about this book is it helps you create meals a long time in advance if you have limited freezer space. Obviously, if there's plenty of room in your freezer, it's not so hard to make things in advance. But I don't. It's always jam packed and I needed another solution. This book helps you make meals ahead of time that go into ball jars and just wait for you until you're ready to make them. All the ingredients it recommends are pre-dried, so you just layer them into the jar and cook them when you need them. You'll need an Instant Pot with a steam release function, but once you have that, most of these can be cooked in about 15 minutes. I like to spend one afternoon every two weeks preparing about two dozen of these dried, and then it's so easy to just pop them in and eat them when I get hungry!

A wonderful cookbook
Instant Pots have always terrified me, simply by virtue of them being unknown and seeming complicated - well no more! I really love this book for simply breaking down how to create delicious and wholesome meals in an Instant Pot. There's a lovely variety of recipes, and all can be easily modified to change it up every now and again. I really appreciate that dietary needs are taken into account (check out that GF labeling!) and they're organized by meal type, with prep time, cook time, and release times listed. The recipes are easy to follow, and the photos in this book are GORGEOUS! What a lovely cookbook.

Prepping for easy, healthy meals.
I love the variety and flavor combinations! This will be an adventure in cooking, sometimes, a new experience of culture. We’ll give each a trial run before making several, just to be sure it’s approved by all. Having them on the pantry shelf, is not only beautiful, but handy.

Bland
The cake was undercooked (raw and dripping) and bland. I've now tried three different soups and the seasonings are very bland. The breakfast oatmeal was decent but, again, not seasoned enough. I am not really impressed, I was hoping for too much as the concept is really good.

Not what I was hoping for
I should have believed the other reviews. Too many of these involved dehydrated foods that I don’t have access to.

I don’t like it very much...
Not enough good recipe and details of « how to... »

No good unless you own a dehydrator
Most of the recipes required dehydrated vegetables that are not easily found. ie carrots, celery etc
