If invasive plants scare you, Horsetail looks absolutely amazing when planted in planter boxes or ornamental pots alongside water features or provide beautiful accenting to an already established landscape.
- INSANE HEALTH BENEFITS: Horsetail contains vitamin C, potassium salts, and malic acid, and is considered an antimicrobial and antiseptic plant. When ingested, Horsetail aids digestion, helps repair renal disorders, bronchitis, pneumonia, arthritis, headaches and can even treat drowsiness.Horsetail plants are very high in the silicates which strengthen and repair collagen in the body.
- COST EFFECTIVE, FAST GROWTH & HIGH REWARDS: Our healthy bamboo root divisions are an inexpensive way to begin growing Horsetail. You are buying root divisions which are roots divided from the mature mother plant. Horsetail grows exceptionally fast, so you do not need much to get started. The amount you will recieve is the perfect amount to start a planter box or several potted plants. Watch and see how amazing Horsetail will fill in during the spring and summer, just keep watered!
HOW TO GROW HORSETAIL: Insert at least 6-12 inches of soil/compost into the bottom of your container. Doesn’t have to be exact, just create a nice thick padding on the bottom of your pot, planter box, etc. Place the roots in the center of the container and fill any empty space with soil/compost; pat your soil/compost down to ensure the plant is stable by applying normal pressure. You can also plant in or near water. We use an organic horse manure compost which is more acidic and is really great for fast growth and super green foliage! You can use something similar or your own mix; Horsetail Reed can grow in most mixtures! Running plant varieties are extremely VIGOROUS growers with rhizomes/roots which grow like spaghetti in the ground if you let it. Running bamboo varieties have long intricate rhizomes that spread at rates that can exceed 20 feet per year! Because of this fantastic attribute, we usually recommend our clients to purchase root barriers that prevent excessive unwanted growth. Root barriers can be bought on or at most landscape supply stores; some nurseries also may offer these items. Please be advised that growing running bamboo in an unrestricted fashion, you may need to take additional measures to prevent the roots from traveling to unwanted areas. Owning invasive plants can seem scary and "banned" by the community, because many people allow theirs to get OUT OF CONTROL. If properly detained in the beginning by using simple nylon root barriers or even a wooden box to put in the ground, then your plants will be UNDER CONTROL. ONGOING MAINTENANCE Water daily – this cannot be clearer Cut all foliage off in the winter, so new growth will quickly fill back in during the warmer months You may use an organic high nitrogen slow release grass fertilizer once every four months for the first year.
