Champions of the Force: Star Wars Legends (The Jedi Academy) (Star Wars: The Jedi Academy Book 3)

First, to get my complaint off, that has nothing to do with plot, author, etc. The manufacturer is totally non-responsive. I received the book with the last pages missing. I know...WTF? I asked the manufacturer what to do since I don't consider the shipper to be responsible for a printing error, and absolutely no response. What can you do?The continuity is awesome in the series, and closes some chapters. I'm not really good at writing "reviews". All I can say is that I enjoyed it immensely. This is part of the "older" series when this stuff was just kicking off. During this time periods, it just seems like everyone needed rescuing and the whole Republic just gives them whatever resources they need to get them. Kind of the space equivalent of a U.S. Senator being kidnapped by North Korea and the Senators brother gets the U.S. to give him full use of the Seventh Fleet, a stealth fighter, the full use of CIA satellites and humint and sets him loose with his best friend and their dog to rescue the Senator. This is not the authors fault, he does great. This was more with what he was allowed to do by the "powers that be", the dark Jedi council of licensing by LucasArt. I always liked the fact that Star Wars was "dark" compared to Star Trek "Lite". But the author brought in Kyp to help others try to figure out that parts of the dark could be used without turning to the dark side. That's good. This really became part of the story in later book writings. But it had to have a foundation. This was it. Great job Kevin!

Really, all the main characters were morons. Luke sets up shop at a nexus of the dark side then more or less shrugs his shoulders and say oops when they start getting picked off. Daala as depicted might be the most incompetent admiral in Imperial history and set back the cause of female equality in the Empire to approximately Ewok status. The administrator of the Maw facility never set one foot right. The idea of the Empire constructing an essentially fully function Death Star as a proof of concept and then just letting it sit in mothballs while everything else went into the crapper made no sense. The idea that one person could pilot and operate the Death Star when the movies made it abundantly clear it was the effort of hundreds of specialized personnel was stupid. Akhbar accepting responsibility for crashing a ship the was objectively malfunctioning in front of his eyes defied logic. It just went on and on with intellectually challenged versions of beloved characters.However, it passed the time and help me get to sleep so there's that.Meh.

I actually read I Jedi (Stackpole) a long time ago and recently reread it on my iPad. Anyway if you read that book this trilogy will fill in the gaps about pretty much everything from Exar Kun to Kyp, and it does it prety well. My only BMC about it is that at times it felt like it was written for a 10 year old. The parts where Han and Lando are constantly playing sabbaac and winning the Falcon back from each other over and over again are sooooo predictable and Hans irrational anger that started it all was just lame and frankly could have been left out. All in all it was a pretty good set of books so they are worth the read for the background and side stories.

THE story line isexciting and intriguing keeping me interested in the characters band plots within plots trying to keep up with the story.I give this story a 4 star rating.Sevenunderpar@comcast .net

I found the books to be good y self. They fit in well with the other Star Wars books. and if you did not read I, Jedi yet I would say pis that book up as well because it also has to do with this trilogy of books but, it also has it own plot but there are a lot of tie ins.This book by it's self is a good book but you would be lost without reading the other two.

Good stories to further the Star Wars Univers.

The conclusion to the Jedi Academy Trilogy, is an absolutely thrilling book. It is a nice rest from the Old Republic books that seem to roll off the press every month or two.It is set with Admiral Daala having only the Gorgon by her side after some mishap with Kyp Durron. He in return has been released of his mental anguish of Exar Kun. Master Skywalker is paralyzed and moves around as a Force spirit on Yavin IV. The Jedi kids are actually cute at this point and in this particular book there isn't so much banter about their stupid adventures in the depths of Coruscant.

This was a good series and the final book disappoint. My only complaint was the most interesting villain was out by the halfway point in the book and the final villain was kind of goofy.

Good pace throughout the series, with a decent plot and subplots, runs along nicely. Worth a read if you enjoy the Star Wars genre

Seit seiner Auseinandersetzung mit Kyp Durron und dem Geist des dunklen Lords Exar Kun liegt Jedi-Meister Luke Skywalker im Koma. Doch die Zukunft von Lukes neuen Jedi-Orden hängt auch deshalb in der Schwebe, weil Kuns Lehrling den Sun Crusher in seinen Besitz gebracht hat und nun droht die Reste des Imperiums auszulöschen.Zugleich ist Staatschefin Mon Mothma tödlich erkrankt und muss sich mit der Entdeckung des imperialen Superwaffenzentrums im Maw herumschlagen. Daalas Flotte hat sich zwar zurückgezogen, doch im Maw lauert immer noch ein voll funktionisfähiger Prototyp des Todesstern-Superlasers...~ In der dunkelsten Stunde ~Kyp Durrons Rachefeldzug gegen das Imperium nimmt auch vor Carida nicht halt, während Botschafter Furgan es auf den auf Anoth versteckten Anakin Solo abgesehen hat. Es sieht also ganz danach als könnten in Band 3 der JEDI ACADEMY Trilogie alle Seiten gleichermaßen verlieren.Kyps Zerstörung des Cardia-Systems reicht an jene Zerstörungswut heran, die schon Exar Kuns antike Anhänger aufzuweisen hatten. Damals verwüsteten sie Ossus und zerstörten auf der Flucht vor den Jedi ein ganzes Sonnensystem, nun wendet Kyp Durron eine ähnlich mächtige Waffe gegen seine Feinde. Vor Episode VII hätte man die Zerstörungskraft des Sonnenhammers vielleicht noch als unglaubwürdig abgetan, doch einen Starkiller später ist zumindest mir der Sun Crusher als Superwaffe lieber, immerhin lässt sich dessen Funktionsweise durch einen Film wie Danny Boyles SUNSHINE erklären.Neben dem Sun Crusher spielt jedoch auch der Todesstern-Prototyp noch eine Rolle, was in Verbindung mit dem Darksaber Kevin J. Anderson den zweifelhaften Ruhm eines Superwaffen-Enthusiasten verliehen hat.Luke im "Koma" ist ein seltsamer Kunstgriff, denn tatsächlich ist Luke auf einer Astralebene gestrandet, auf der er auch Meister Vodo-Siosk Baas begegnen kann. Gewöhnungsbedürftig wie die Mortis-Episoden in THE CLONE WARS und nach dem Yoda-Arc in den LOST MISSIONS auch irgendwie ein Widerspruch zum neuen Kanon, aber die ganze JEDI ACADEMY Trilogie gehört ja ohnehin zu den Star Wars Legends.Mon Mothma liegt im Sterben und fast hätte hätte sie in CHAMPIONS OF THE FORCE auch das Leben ausgehaucht, hätte sich Lucasfilm damals nicht doch noch anders entschieden. Zur nächsten Staatschefin wurde dann trotzdem Leia Organa-Solo, zumindest in der Callista-Trilogie, vor welcher Mon Mothma bereits das Ende ihrer Amtszeit erreicht hat. Mothma starb dann schließlich "offscreen".~ Die Feuerprobe des neuen Jedi-Ordens ~Skywalkers talentiertesten Schüler konnte ihm Exar Kun abspenstig machen, doch der Rest beweist in CHAMPIONS OF THE FORCE seinen Zusammenhalt und Vertrauen in die Lehren Lukes. Seinen weniger fortgeschrittenen Schülern hat Luke aber auch sein Jedi-Training angepasst, es waren die hochbegabten Gantoris und Exar Kun, die sich von Luke jedoch vernachlässigt und zurückgehalten fühlten. Selbst Gantoris wies aber Exar Kuns Avancen zurück und wollte sich von der dunklen Seite los sagen, nur Kyps Hass bietet dem dunklen Lord eine Möglichkeit einen von Skywalkers Jedi-Schülern auch unter Kontrolle zu behalten. Schlussendlich droht Kun unter den neuen Jedi jedoch das gleiche Schicksal, das ihn schon 4000 Jahre zuvor hätte blühen sollen. Es braucht keine Jedi-Legionen, es braucht nur eine Gruppe von Jedi die als solche handelt. In Yodas Worten "Size matters not."~ Das Finale ~Der Start in JEDI SEARCH war eigentlich nur der Prolog, in DARK APPRENTICE ging es mit der Handlung erst so richtig los und nun fühlt sich CHAMPIONS OF THE FORCE auch fast ein wenig wie ein lang gezogener Epilog an. Von Anfang an ist klar was in diesem Buch alles passieren muss, die Wendungen halten sich somit leider in Grenzen, aber zumindest werden einem einige legendäre Szenen geboten wie das Ende Caridas oder die Schlacht im Maw.~ Zusammenfassend ~Ein wenig überraschendes, doch zumindest actionreich inszeniertes Finale.
