Decent For The Price But Not The Best Engineered
This is an updated version of the kit from the original. But even so the flimsy vacuformed base pieces are hollow and once you glue them together, you'll need to glue the whole thing to some kind of base. I used foam board. There's barely enough material to make all the transport tubes so no room for mistakes. It's a very monochromatic kit so some weathering will be needed to make it more interesting. I didn't even bother with the Main Mission build. It's all virtually one color and since I hung mine on the wall, there's no place to put Main Mission. It's also inaccurate. The holes in the sides of the buildings don't match up to the transport tubes so it's best to just cover them with thin styrene pieces. And lastly, the buildings don't fit all that great to the moon surface even with the indentations. It's a revamped, old kit that needs a complete reengineering.

Round2 Improves a Classic
Space: 1999 was a British-made science fiction TV show that debuted in 1975. Exceptional special effects and cool spacecraft designs got us all excited for our first trip into space, which we all assumed must be reality by the time 1999 arrived, the timeframe that the show portrayed. While waiting impatiently, we built models such as this Moonbase Alpha kit.Round2 Models has re-released an improved version of this kit, which was offered previously in the late 1970's and again in the late 1990's. This is actually two kits in one. It includes a model of Moonbase Alpha on a vacuum-formed base and the Main Mission control room with figures as a separate model. The moonbase model is more accurate and the base is larger than before in this re-issue. New parts are provided for the Eagle landing pads, and six new, in-scale Eagle transporters are included. A new four-piece diorama base, larger than those in the older kits, is a definite improvement. Very nice decals simulate the landing pads, computer wall, and console detailsOne minor caveat is that the promotional box art that Round2 has provided to kit dealers represents the older version of the kit with the Main Mission diorama mounted to the original rectangular vacuum formed base. The new box has similar artwork, but accurately portrays the new, square base that does not have Main Mission mounted to it. There is no nameplate molded into the base as in the previous version.Fans of the old kit will be happy to know that the original, nearly 1-inch Eagles are still included with their old launch pads. This makes a total of twelve Eagles when counted with the new half-inch versions. So, all the original injection-molded parts are there. The box recommends the kit to modelers age twelve and over. It will be helpful to have some experience with glue-together kits. The parts are molded in white plastic, as is the vacuum-formed base. No paint, glue, or finishing supplies are included. If one were to simply spray-paint the base gray and glue the other parts together as they are, the model should take a couple hours or so to build. Of course, better results will be obtained with more time, effort, and finishing put into the model. The parts had quite a bit of slippery mold-release agent on them indicative of a kit from an old 70’s-vintage mold. So, it is a good idea to scrub the parts with a brush and soapy water before painting. Otherwise, the paint will not adhere properly.Other 1970s-style model kit artifacts are present such as a little flash and round injector pin marks on the Main Mission wall panels that will require some filler putty. Sinkholes mar a few parts as well. The parts for the moon base will require less preparation than the pieces for Main Mission. Sprue attachment points are a tad on the heavy side on all of the Eagle transporters, so one should be careful to avoid damaging them while cutting off the sprue. While the Moonbase is much improved, the Main Mission control room model appears unchanged. Most glaring discrepancies in accuracy include the spiral staircase and the angles of the panels on the computer wall. Any modeler with proficiency in scratch-building should have no trouble correcting these issues, which are minor anyway. There are twelve figures. However, as in the original kit, there are three identical sets of four figures, so the picky modeler may wish to modify them to represent the different Main Mission characters (John Koenig and Helena Russell are easily identifiable; the other pair are somewhat generic-looking). The box art shows the same characters modified with different hair colors and sleeve colors which may be convincing enough for most builders. All in all, this reviewer is happy with the model and the balance that Round2 has found by improving the kit, yet retaining most of its classic features. You’ll have a blast building this model—enough to be blasted completely out of Earth orbit.

Product Pic Used By Amazon Is Wrong
The writeup on this kit shows that it is a more recent release then the version shown in the picture. Among the differences is the fact that this version species that it includes all five Eagle landing pads, while the pic shows the older version which only supplied three such pads.

they would have liked the eagle ships were a bit bigger for painting ...
I purchased as a gift for family member. They very much appreciated it but since they were going to assemble the kit as a bonding activity for father and son, they would have liked the eagle ships were a bit bigger for painting purposes.

Per gli appassionati di modellismo
Eccellente rapporto qualità prezzo. Bella realizzazione della sala comando. Veramente simile a quella utilizzata nella serie TV. Consigliato.
