Just what I expected and flavorful, too. I don’t mind the box. I poured all my beans into a ziplock bag & put them back into the box. Then I shoved down the useless lid on top. I’m happy with my purchase!

I cook many Chinese dishes with these fermented black beans and have used this brand for over 40 years. Was so excited to find them on Amazon. My family loves stir fry’s with black bean paste. (I lightly rinse the beans and then make them into a paste with fresh garlic).

If you don't mind the box being broken when it comes, it's a tasty product. The box is sealed in a plastic bag, and so are the beans themselves. I made a gluten free bean sauce from them, and was very happy with the taste of them.

I have used these black beans for a long time; as others have noted, they are more expensive at Amazon than at a Chinese grocery. But you are paying for convenience: no muss, no fuss, no travel time or transportation costs, and that might be worth something to you. These are lovely black beans and make a wonderful sauce for chicken. They are also an integral part of the late, great Barbara Tropp's recipe for orange chili oil--I add more than the recipe calls for, as I love the flavor. (Tropp's "China Moon Cookbook" is available in print and ebook on Amazon, and I recommend it highly for its fresh approach and delicious recipes.) A great pantry item. Warning: the box is nigh useless; transfer to a clean glass jar and it will keep, if not forever, for a long time.

This product arrived with old and deteriorating cardboard packaging. Consequently, the beans had spilled out into the shipping packaging, and many of the beans had become crushed. I had to throw it away immediately after it had arrived at our home. Dinner was ruined. Unacceptable.

Oh man ordered these because they don't have any flour or corn, because girlfriend is allergic, and made a black bean sauce for the first time. Turned out great! Super easy to do. Used that to make basically jjajangmyeon with pork belly. Delicious! Omg mouth orgasm. Highly recommend.Only issue now is I still have a lot of beans left. Only needed a couple tablespoons. Good problem to have.
