This is the first time I have held an all-steel knife, only leather between my hand and the steel itself, and it actually feels, to me, much more solid and secure. It is carbon steel, not stainless, so some protection of the blade from rust is required, but the trade off is for easy sharpening.>.. The blade is a traditional shape, much like a leaf-half. It arrives "sharp" but with lawyers dictating so much of life, it took just a few strokes to get it sharp enough to easily slice through some copy paper. Note to self: rust protection is required! (Most any edible oil is OK to use, just wipe it off till the blade is dry.) The traditional oil for the Japanese is Camellia Oil [available on Amazon] but it is NOT required. Mineral oil works as well, just wipe dry.>.. In another review the person notes that the little finger can fit through the hole at the end, and the hand fits easily over the leather without getting too close to the blade edge. BUT, if you put your finger there, it limits the range of motion the knife can be used in, due to the movement of the wrist. It is JUST AS COMFORTABLE with the fingers wrapped around the leather part only, with the little finger resting against the close outer portion of the ending "O.">.. This is not a combat knife, the blade is much too short to provide much either in offense or defense. That does not mean that it cannot be used that way, but I suspect it would be a desperate situation. This is more commonly an eating knife, preparation of small game for meals, etc. In the times this knife was popular, most individuals carried a knife to cut down meat to pieces small enough to finger or 'stab' and bring to the mouth. Considering modern sanitation, I do NOT recommend using this knife in that way.>.. As an Every Day Carry, this is a good knife, It will open packages, whittle, and more, if you like a fixed blade for that purpose. [Many do not, they prefer the closed folding knife in their pocket.] The leather case is pretty, but if you intend to use the knife often (EDC) then you will want something that does not cut the sheath as it enters and exits. The sharp blade slides over the lacing closing the sheath, so that I expect the lacing to give way over time as it is cut. One reviewer thought that a Kydex sheath might be preferred. And I think that would be wise, if you can work Kydex and don't care too much about period authenticity.>.. Could this knife be used in reenactor play, say a medieval fair day, the answer would lie with the players, but I think it would look and act in an authentic way for the period. It is a single piece of steel contrived in a simple style, and easily made by any blacksmith, and would have been carried through a family for generations.>.. Is it worth the money? I think so, but that may not be true for others. I really, really, like how it feels in the hand. Solid. Dependable. Strong. Faithful. Unbending. Confident.>.. EDIT TO ADD: there has been some criticism of the sheath in that it appears that the sharp blade would cut the leather closing the sheath, allowing the sheathe to fall apart. MY sheath shows a piece of wood between the two halves of the leather folded over to form the sheath. The holes for the leather binding go through the leather, wood and leather, putting the wood between the sharp edge of the knife blade and the sewing piece of leather. I suspect that the makers found the problem and worked to fix it.

This is my third knife from these people and it’s as distinctive and beautiful as the other two . And I love the blue sheath! I honestly have no real practical use for this knife, I just like the way it looks but I have no doubt it’s as functional as it is beautiful!

This knife arrived and was exactly what I expected it to be. Great size for everyday carry. It is on the small side but that’s exactly what I was looking for. Has a good sharp edge and is exactly as I would imagine knives would have been 1000 years ago. The sheath is nothing to write home about but is better than a lot of them that come with knives at this price point. All and all I love it and am very happy with the purchase!

Sharp and well made great knife.

Hand forged spring steel for 40$ and a nice leather sheath...Not really going to find a better deal. Edge retention is good, knife is sturdy. If you have any questions after receiving your knife, this seller is quick to respond and help in any way that is reasonable.

This is a beautiful knife! I love it. I has become my new camping and outdoors necklace knife. It is the perfect size for my hand, and I can let it fall looped to my pinkie to free up both hands. Camping, I tie a small sharpening stone to the sheath and I have a thin leather lace to hold it over my head like a necklace. It is not long enough for batoning wood, but most experienced outdoorspeople will tell you that you never have a need for batoning. It also isn't designed to use with flint, but you could modify the portion just below the blade to make it sharper for creating spark. I haven't done that yet, but I plan to with my angle grinder, as I enjoy creating fire without a lighter while camping.

This is my first review I don't write them but I had with this knife. Sharp out of the box takes a razor edge and holds it very well. Has the rough forged look to it Ford in the hand perfect with or without using the ring. Can't say enough about the knife it's my everyday carry like it so much I bought 2. But now to the sheath. It's a simple leather sheath perfect to store the knife in maybe an occasional outing but that's it. Which for me is fine I make sheaths for all my knives. The leather one it comes with I'm not sure how it would last as an everyday user. With that said awsome knife, good price can't beat it. Buy one or two

The blade is exactly as advertised. Beautiful craftsmanship. It is very sharp - literally the only drawback is that the blade is so sharp that by day 3 it had already sliced through the leather cording on the holster/case just by resting in it, which did result in a big cut to one of my fingers. (I wasn't expecting the knife to pop out of the bottom of the holster.)
