500 Key Words for the SAT: And How To Remember Them Forever!

Really helps!
I purchased this back when I was in high school to help me study for my SATs, I remember how helpful this book was and fast forward to today, I still remember words from this book. I will never forget Ava Rice. Once I graduated and took my SATs, I donated this book to the thrift store. Now my younger brother just started high school, and I had to buy this again to help him prepare. It really helps you learn vocabulary!! Also, I took my SATs almost 7 years ago, but I remember seeing words from this book on the SATs.

Great resource, however one concern.
Receiving 500 words to memorize for a book that is a little over $10 is a great deal. Other books are content to give you much less, and divide it into a couple volumes for you to buy. Moreover, the pictures that go along with the words and the example sentences which put a word in context are very helpful. However, there is one thing I'd like to quickly point out. I've been going over this book with my younger brother who is going to take the SAT, and I've got to say that a few of the definitions for the words are not the best. They are correct, but not precise. I think this was done for some of the words so that students can get a conceptual idea of the word, but it doesn't help if you want to know the precise meaning of the word.

Must Have For SAT Prep--Fun and Effective
We have been using this book for a few months now and we are really enjoying it. Studying SAT words is the one homework activity my daughters never complain about. I know it works--they are only 9 and 10 years old, and they are having no problems learning these big words. They are now using words like "acrimonious" in everyday conversation. I like to remind them and my high school students the sage advice the author offers in the introduction--these words are not hard, they are just unfamiliar, and the mnemonics in this book do an unparalleled job of making them familiar. Background: I am a high school teacher and homeschool dad.

An absolute must have; it is super helpful!
This book was truly amazing. The puns they have are funny, creative, and intelligent; the author really helps you remember the words forever! There are also some great SAT test prep tips in the last few pages. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to improve his or her SAT reading score, or simply build vocabulary. This does take awhile to memorize it all, so leave 3-4 weeks of time to get through it all plus review it.

Accurate and extremely helpful!
I used this book before taking the SATs and it helped my critical reading score improve 20-30 points (from vocab) compared to my PSATs.It was extremely accurate, and many of the words that were in it were on the actual test. The pictures and stories really made the definitions memorable, and even made learning some of the vocab fun.I highly recommend this book to juniors looking for a fast and easy way to memorize vocabulary words!

a very practical tool for expanding vocabulary
Threw the kids this and told 'em if they don't get an academic scholarship for college it's off to work in the local tannery, rendering meat to make Jell-O. This is a very practical tool for expanding vocabulary--not just for kid looking to increase their verbal scores, but for jumped up bumpkins like me looking to sound all smart and ejicated at fancy art gallery openings and various high-falutin' soirees.
