Witch in the Kitchen: Magical Cooking for All Seasons

my rating only reflects cosmetic quality
I would have left a better star rating if it weren't for the fact that the book arrived with a torn binding that was poorly repaired with scotch tape. I'm a book snob, I like my books in good repair. There's no way for me to fix it without ruining it some more, so I'm just stuck with an ugly book. ANYWAY: the book itself is both an informative and entertaining read. It's a nice reference guide and I'll be keeping it within reach!

This vegetarian wiccan cook book is amazing!
Another great book for wiccans who like to cook for the seasons and holidays, also it is all vegetarian if not vegan so it really follows the wiccan rule of harm none, and I love that!

Love this book
A friend cooked a recipe for me from here ~ chicken soup with leeks and kale. We still make it regularly, years later. Sometimes weekly. Finally i got it for myself. Couldn't be more perfect.

Sacred Yumminess
As a life long kitchen witch this book is such a gift. Johnson invites creativity through a combination of poetry and lore, rituals and recipes. The book positively reinforces humans relationship to food and nature by highlighting the timber and mood of each season. The recipes are seasonally based with easy to follow directions and descriptions of ways to infuse intention and magic into each step. Witch in the Kitchen is a worthy and whimsical addition to any kitchen.

Lovely book
I agree with the previous reviewer that this book is an absolute joy to read. I've had my copy for around 8 years and it's well worn and covered in kitchen splashes! I use it every year. Each sabbat has an opening page with a beautiful verse and picture which sets the scene wonderfully, it follows on to tell you about the season from both a practical and spiritual point of view, followed by seasonal recipes. It also includes a few lovely seasonal rituals, kitchen spells and meditations. Love it. Buy it! :)

Lovely book
Lovely book with many interesting recipes to try, some of which are vegan. Lots of ideas, besides the recipes, to celebrate the seasons and Pagan festivals. Also good ideas for decorating the kitchen in honour of the seasons.

Discover the divine in food
Although some parts of this book strike me as being a little silly, I liked the approach the author has on cooking with the divine in mind. It's not a book on correspondences, or on the magical properties of ingredients. It's all about opening yourself to the divine before cooking, an ancestral act honoring the primal forces of our world. It's encouraging us to find the ritual and sacred into the common tasks we have to complete in our kitchen, but it also says "respect yourself", in such way that we are told not to shame ourselves for when inspiration eludes us. The book is organized in seasonal parts, and each major sabbat will get their description and propose rituals, activities and of course, recipes.Nothing ground breaking here, BUT the recipes are well constructed, honest and well explained. They also yield a reasonable number of portions each. I liked the tone of the book, and the fact that it's pretty realistic about our current modern lives.

Not for rational types...
...however, I just love this book and am ever so happy I bought it. Besides interesting recipes this book is full of whimsy and magic - as well as many, many practical suggestions for people who seek to live in harmony with earth and nature and the energies that come with the different seasons. The sparkle of magic is cast over the act of cooking - and kitchen-work in general. A sense of humour pervades this book and I smile every time I read a few pages. Also, my creativity is mightily stirred - suddenly I look upon my house and garden with the eyes of the witch looking for the ingredients of magic - stones, vergetabels, herbs and places to store them in, music ...
