Q: How wide and deep is the base of the unit?

6inchs wide and roughly 14inches high

Q: Does it pump water up a steep gradient?

In my situation, it raises the water at least 2 meters and it still comes out at a high volume. Therefore, I know it would be able to raise it higher. First metre is almost verticle, followed by 5 metre run and last metre vertical into a water butt. Hope this is of some use?

Q: can this clean the water in my pool? if i put the waste hose back into the pool will it clean the debris out of it? like filter the water?

I only use it for draining dirty water from pond. looking at the exit water from pump , I would say that it is not filtered in any way thus answer to question would be no!

Q: What depth of water will this remove to?

basically this unit will pump water approximately 5m from the surface of the water straight up so as long as the depth of the water from the surface to the bottom is 5m or less it will work fine I use mine to water my garden from a 6m deep well, this unit will pump down to 6m but does struggle a bit, with a reduced flow rate as it gets to the bottom of the well
