I Don't Exactly Know what a Guitar Synthesizer is but this Album Sounds Good!
This too would have been an album that at one time I had an illegal copy of. Given antipiracy laws and a desire to make amends for my past transgressions, I elected to pick up a legitimate copy of this album to add to my music collection. I was glad I did.Overall, this is a good sounding album but I wouldn’t say that it’s my favorite by the band. Online sources indicate that it’s the first album where the band utilizes guitar synthesizers. It does sound radically different than it’s predecessor, Powerslave, and a bit more in line with where the band’s sound is currently at. Whether or not that is the sole contributing factor as to why that is the case I am not really sure. I really like half the tracks on this album and have a hard time picking a favorite one. If I really had to choose, though, I would probably pick “The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner”.I continue to appreciate Iron Maiden’s contribution to my own musical preferences. As a `90’s kid one of my earliest memories with music was how Nirvana revolutionized MTV. It’s nice to be able to listen to music and artists that were around before that happened and maybe not as influenced by the changes that took place there as a result. I feel that Iron Maiden is this band for me and I almost view listening to them as “getting an outside opinion” with regards to my own musical interests and predispositions. I hope that they will continue to make new music for some time to come. Finally, the service from Amazon was good here. The album, liner notes, and case all showed up undamaged. I was able to listen to the album just fine and back it up to my PC. I appreciate the service offered by Amazon that allowed me to get a legitimate copy of this album and hopefully make an amends to the band that I feel was long overdue. Thanks.

Brilliant album, brilliant packaging, we've been here before.
I love Iron Maiden and I love that this series of remasters brings back the classic vinyl feel. That said, aside from the Eddie figure, which is smaller than you might think, it's about the size a CD. The box is lovely, glossy, and holds only the Eddie figure, his base and the CD. The CD sounds excellent and the booklet is glossy and well done. And that's that.Personally, this album has been available in so many formats over the years (and still is), that I find this as something for a fan. And while I am glad new fans are getting to experience these new releases... Iron Maiden put out a superior (imo) collection of remasters when Bruce re-joined the band around the time of the "Ed Hunter" video game. These were double disc releases. Each had the album remasted on one disc. If you put the CD in your computer you had access to interviews and the music videos from the band in that era. The booklets included each told the story of the band, per where they were at in their career at each album. It was like being able to become a fan like one would have naturally, if one went in order through this set. This was an incredible experience and while I have not compared those mixes to the new ones, the volume of extra content on the old double CD remasters (the spine's all formed one giant Edddie from the first album if put on your shelf in a row. They did every album and live album including Live at Donnington and A Real Live Dead One (live albums released on tour before and after Bruce Dickinson quit the band. Those re-issues were a treat. The booklets filled with these mini-histories. That said, I'm not sure how easy it is to obtain those re-issues released at the turn of the century. Never fear though because, being the greatest band in the world, Maiden have made several "History of Iron Maiden" DVDs that do a better job of telling their history and one can still go album by album with them. They've made the material free on their YouTube channel.Bottom line, I'd recommend picking up this, along with the "En Vivo" bluray/DVD (the best edited live concert I've seen) and go watch The History of Iron Maiden even if you already have. New fan or old... this CD sounds fantastic and is over 1000 kbps. You're MP3s from Apple are at best 320kps, most people stream their music lowering the the frequencies and dropping some altogether and bluetooth only further strips away more sound. Pop this CD in with headphones or in your car after listening to Spotify or the radio and you'll ears will fall back in love with you.If this were a 5.1 remix with stereo PCM lossless... I'd give this 5 stars. Until then the LP has the highest sound quality at about 3,000 kps although that's just a relative number since it is analogue, nothing is compressed. Even a CD, which will sound 5-10x better than lossy music streamed over bluetooth. DVD has more space. Bluray has the most (again, the live show is insane. I recommend "En Vivo"). Up the Irons. And don't forget, their new double album "Book of the Dead" is their best since "Brave New World" (which imo is their best since Seventh Son) so check it out if you get the chance.

A great album that's worth the price
As far as the album goes, Somewhere in Time is an amazing Iron Maiden album. Iron Maiden has a history of making interesting album artwork, and this is among the best. From Cyber-Eddie to the various Maiden references and others, it's one of their more intricate pieces. The music behind the album is surprisingly not as much sci-fi, though guitar synthesizers are featured on the album. The figurine looks really well-done, and the patch looks great as well.
